Since people seem to keep bringing up my Thayan Knight tiefling - with a tail - Not that it's anyone's business - but upon arrival to Arabel she was quite strongly told by the Khazark that if she stepped a single toe out of line - he would chop her head off. So perhaps people just need to realize you don't freaking know everything going on, and if you want to play a character that kills tieflings, aasimar's, and whatever the fuck else THEN FREAKING DO IT AND QUIT BITCHING AND WHINING ON THE FORUMS.
Do you have any idea how much less I feel like playing this server because every day I have to look at people saying this crap? Not to mention getting it in PM/FB/IRC - wherever else. I 1000% expect to have to deal with this in character - OOC, why the hell should we have to deal with it?
Good grief.

There's a bar in the server with a tiefling dancer.
Tieflings are fairly common and might be distruted.
But if they aren't trying to kill someone they'd just be watched and not harmed imo

You need to calm down and buck up the swearing pal. It's not a personal slight, it's just an observation and opinion built up over a period of playing CoA for 8 years. It just so happens you are playing a character with a tail.

…...I 1000% expect to have to deal with this in character - OOC, why the hell should we have to deal with it?
...Because that part of the discussion was about two things:
what was reasonable for OTHER people to react to "abnormal" characters such as yours
and
OOC aspects that happen, such as app-races being attention-attractors.
Neither has to do with IC behavior by you, but is OOC discussions about others, so why the upset?Just as people said about "conflict" in another thread- if you don't want the conflict, don't mouth off to other characters…
In a similar vein, if you make the choice to play a controversial character, you can expect to hear controversy. -
I can't ignore the fact that alot of "older" players take an app-char since they've yet to try it and it's a cool bonus and dms allow them to EVEN be in a lawful dm faction + well-respected. I already have a few examples from one year of playing the server. Not to mention since there is this high tolerance of abominations, some of these app-pcs don't expect to be KOS which makes it difficult for those who want to create intrigue through hunting them. -> dm-team need to address this matter, it's not helping the server at all. Even on this topic ppl talk about leaving (yea I know it's jsut talk but still)
Secondly the low player-base makes it harder to quest when you want to quest. Particularly on higher lvls. So when you need 3 ppl to quest with and you only got two viable options and then an abomination some ppl actually welcome the abomination since they can always throw the excuse of "I do it to watch the abomination" and ooc'ly since they make have sympathy for the abomination as it is even harder for the abomination to quest. In the end they end up being best pals. –-> the low intrigue on this server I find one of the reasons to why there aren't more playing here.
IMO there's been a few subrace-apps that shouldn't have been allowed as it just messed this up further. I dunno what there was into their apps but they certainly didn't make intrigue nor did it look like their concept needed a subrace.
In short
- The dm-team should put something into the lawbook about sub-races and whatnot. Even half-orcs. I mean.. the server got a bad history with orcs right, not to mention the latest leading pc of lizard-man's. A CLEAR LINE.
- Make sure the apps live up to expectations and not just a bonus for the player. I myself would love to see less lawful subraces.. with this overly lawful server.
And I don't want to hear ppl whine about it being too hard to play their sub-races etc.. you already got a huge perk and if we follow the rlue-set you're ahead in lvls but still earn the same xp as anyone else. It's meant to be hard, that is where the fun comes. And there's plenty of room to carebear, even if it's hard.
And yes I know this went somewhere else than the op

If your character ICly thinks that Tieflings should be KoS, then KoS them. But handling things in an OOC manner rather than an IC manner is ridiculous.
If you OOCly think this is a problem, then take it up with the DM team. We have PLAYERS who have APPROVED APPLICATIONS TO PLAY subraces - not just tieflings. If the DM team thought they were a bad idea, they wouldnt be approved.
Options:
- KoS IG for IC reasons
- take it up with the DMs
-
Doesn't matter what one player thinks, which is why I bring it up here. And of course it'd have to be ic but a lot of ppl don't react ic or apparently have very bleak characters towards certain sub-races.
I'm sure the dms had good intentions when they approved a concept and so did the player but did the concept live up to it? And did it give fun to the player and the rest of the server for having the dms put effort into it?
Drawing some clear lines are needed to have it more fun and more effective.

Issues with a INDIVIDUAL character should indeed follow the above Options.
Discussion concerning them in general is completely appropriate for general discussion. -

I actually quite like lawbook "ambiguity", it leaves scope for players to forge their own stories I think.

Just to be fair, I havent in any post until now seen or felt actual dislike as to how the APPROVED concepts handle their subraces. They are all top notch players. They arent the issue. It is the rest of the server who suck ass when it comes to subraces. I dont mind evil folk slowly befriending a tiefling. Or even goodly priests being in awe of an aasimar. But both are alien. Both are "abominations" of nature.
I experienced. I know for a fact Ive talked with CB on many occasions with his subraces. And whenever someone with wings shows up, everyone jumps to serve, hoping for dm loot and exp.

Those who tend to obtain the APPROVED CHALLENGING SUBRACE tend to be players who are extremely capable at what they do, or they would not have had the subrace granted. Those who are in a position to challenge such subraces are more likely to be players who are less confident at such a challenge.
Perhaps we need more Dual Applications for such challenging subraces. You apply with a partner player who's character is designed to be your nemesis. This way, other less confident players would see such a battle play out across the city and would be drawn into this conflict by the exceptional players. One of their OOC goals should probably be to draw in one or two players and coach them, giving them confidence for such City Based PvP conflict. One of the main ways people learn is by being coached by someone who is skilled. If you are good at such characters, stop complaining about people who are not as good as you, of bemoaning the lack of such epicness in conflict and get out there and coach them!
Every hero needs a villain. Your villain is either a DM based threat, such as the Githyanki or it must be a PC or Faction with players in it. This server is premissed around PC interacting with PC so the latter style of conflict is promoted.
Look at every character that has played this server who reaches the status of imortality, and you'll see one or more players who played against that character. If you want reach the highlights of CoA Hero/Villain, you need to find your nemesis. All the greatest tales have involved such ultimate battle between two or more players.
Every Moriarty needs his Sherlock.

I know I know. I haven't seen one single sub-race pc who wasn't a veteran player on the server the time I've played so far. They're definetly experienced as that is one of the many requirements for such an app.
But just because they're experienced doesn't mean they live up to expectations. There's a reason why a vast amount of players have a hard time rp'ing they're freaks.. it's easy to blame the "neutral players" as the "freaks"/experienced players don't contribute enough with their sub-race, making them more human and cudly-like imo. I think it goes both ways, some players don't respond much to freaks but there are also freaks that don't give off the freakish vipe enough (even if they hide it!) -
I've been thinking about this situation a bit… Remembering the tiefling Paradox played... She wasn't KoS at first, but stirred a whole lot of trouble by her mere existence. People actually died because of their views on monstrous races.
And Seter's tiefling? Caused war with the elves, open conflict between several major factions. He even sparked a civil unrest or two.
Why was it so much more rough to be a tiefling back in the day?
People were more trigger happy back then? Factions were a bit better defined and had strong opinions on things? There were more players around and people weren't afraid to make enemies?I don't know, there must be a combination of reasons. But for one I know that redefining faction policies, making them less mellow and compromising, would go a long way.
Our current factions do not promote PvP in any form between each other. Which is not very good for a server that relies on conflict and intrigue. -
second that

..all good stuff….Not so much that no one challenges them, but rather, everyone flocks to them.
-
People will flock to talented players because they're fun to be around, regardless of race.
It just so happens that it tends to be talented players who get subraces approved more often than newer or more casual players, and so it appears that people flock to subrace PCs.
Getting a bit off topic though.

Which is not very good for a server that relies on conflict and intrigue.Hehe, in 2007 when i had my fav char of all time, a tiefling as well who became a notorious murderer, i couldn't enter civilized area without risk of death as tieflings were KoS back then ;)
-
I remember my EO character being told in no uncertain terms by his superiors that we couldnt just kill someone for being a tiefling, that cant have been long after 2007.
-
I would personally (not the DM team view) want to see many more subraces be kill on sight. Or at least, there be no consequences for committing any crime except murder against them.
