Build Advice - Archer
-
Hey guys and girls.
If anyone has played a half decent archer could they give me a rough idea for a build, or at least a few pointers to get me started. Never really played one so I have no idea where to start!
Cheers in advance x

Dexterity fighter is the way to go.
Try to aim for 16/16 with your Strength and Dexterity. If you want, you can probably shoot for a 14/18 for higher accuracy with slightly less "oomph," but it'll cut costs if you manage 16 in Strength. It's not worth getting above 16 usually because Mighty +4 or higher bows are almost unheard.
With Dexterity, 18 is the magic number. You get +4 to your AB with a bow, and then you can fully economize your AC with a +1 Chain Shirt. Suddenly, you've got 4 (base AC) + 4 (Dex mod) +1 if magic = 9. Booyah. Same as a +1 fullplate. Get yourself some tumble ranks and hello AC!
Since you'll be a fighter, enjoy the feats. Weapon Focus, Specialization, and Improved Critical are your friends. Beyond that, I'd recommend getting Point Blank and Rapid Shot ASAP, because Rapid Shot is super sexy when you've got Cat's Grace going.
Also, as a final protip - OCCASIO ARROWS.
This is all mechanical advice, of course.

A few levels of rogue for the sneak attack damage helps too.
-
Or wear a fullplate, and get the AB bonus from Dex anyway.

Reduced weight, man. It's a lifesaver.
-
Plus full plate brings down your stealth. (Assuming he wants stealth.)
-
Yeah. And like I said, chain shirt makes tumble slightly more viable.
Rogue levels aren't a bad idea if you're already getting your feat progression. Sneak attack + actual class ranks in tumble. Your AB progression will only suffer -1, so that's not bad.
Alternatively, you could just…go pure rogue for epic sneak attacks. But all it takes is one Mummy and then FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
-
And archers with full plate look retarted. IMHO.
Also try out those crafting skills for those special arrows. Your build will probably make getting the materials pretty easy. (Stealth?)
And occasio arrows are pretty boss.

From a build point of view, you could choose bard instead of rogue to multiclass too. You'll get tumble, and the song can be nice to boost your damage.
Just keep in mind if you don't get barbarian or rogue levels your dext AC will go down if you get flatfooted, so that means even if you have a good AC, you shouldn't try to tank.
Imo, barbarian levels are reasonable too, to get more HP, speed, and the possibility to boost your damage.
-
Less feats though. Of course, I don't think there are that many archer feats.
EDIT: Bard might be good if you want to go for the arcane archer.
-
This is golden, cheers guys!

Stay pure fighter if you going fighter. no sneaks also means you have unlimited range ;)
-
CitizenBane clearly knows nothing about pvp.
-
barbarian with haste helmet 16 str/16 dex
I take that back, cleric of Milil. Nobility and charm can max your charisma to the lower 30's makeing for a bomb of a divine might arrow.
cast aura of courage + eagles splender + feat eagles splender
But then again, who wants to play a cleric of Milil?
-
Take PBS giving you +1 ab at short range and Rapid shot, staying pure fighter means you can have more attacks and high strength means you do more damage.
Your AB of course goes off dex but more than 18 is a waste put it in strength.
Plus as fighter you get weapon focus and weapon spec.
My current archer does 6-16 damage on a normal hit crit is x3,and that is using a +2 mighty bow.she also gets the same number of attacks as someone duel wielding without the minuses to ab she only loses -2 at range close it is only -1.
The only lack is
AC from a shield you can wear FP and buff with potions like always anyhow. -
One item to carfully consider is the armor aspect.
Going light armor and tumble is good for getitng away from those Orc vets who come after the archer.
But it sucks if you get into a archery war against a dozen goblins, because your AC goes away.of course, one can get good to have that magic 14 tumble in plate. It just takes awhile.

Divine mighting archery quiet a nice trick if you can get it working!
I did it with a paladin, but I suspect a cleric with aura of glory on there spell list be more stright forwards and quicker to develop. Also you can get divine shield to protect yourself in combat, something you might want to grab afterthe archery and divine might feats.

Buy a bow.
