New and terribly intimidated

Welcome!
I was introduced to CoA and roleplaying by a good friend. At first it was intimidating to approach other players and characters but the community was eager to welcome a new player and show him what CoA is about. I propably wouldn't have continued playing CoA if players hadn't approached me and said "Hi!" when I logged in. I hope the community gives you the same warm welcome I received when I started. :)
Also don't be afraid to approach the DMs! We're happy to answer any questions, even the "stupid" ones. Just send us a private message in forums or #coa IRC channel, or find us in game.

Welcome to the forums, be afraid, very afraid.
I kid of course, if you have any questions, I refer to what Creepy said, and don't accept any candy he gives you. -

@Broken:
Make a minion.
Bitches love minions.
True. I started here just before the summer. One of the first people I run into is a cult leader who turns out to be the next villain of the month. He recruits me into the group, and I get to join in all sorts of horrid shenanigans from day one.

@Broken:
My first character was a Half-Elf ranger who quickly befriended an Elf played by Adelor. I think, from what I remember of him, he remains my favourite Elf in CoA simply because of the willingness of the player to take me under their wing. I wish he still played. And Sabaron too.. :(
My first app character was a red knight under Adelor's wizard. Him and Sabaron were awesome.

Its okay to cry when the Ankhegs drop down on you, when the trap you didn't see insta-kills you, when the Half-orc bandit sneak-crits you with his massive axe, when the goblin you thought was just a goblin turner out to be harder than 20 ogres, or when you crawl through the endless dungedon of death, on your knees with every stat drained and every resource spent only to find that "The Princess is in another Castle!".
Its okay. We've all been there. It will happen to you too, but life goes on. -
Hi, my name is pig and I'm a canibal. Welcome to City of Mr. Bacon.
Cheers

My first experience with RP was on COA, and I have to say you're doing a lot better than I did.
The first thing I did was walk to the marketplace and examine someone. I'd never read such a vivid character description, having only played the campaign, and was extremely uncomfortable with my situation, not even sure whether I was online or not. So I attacked.
Yes, I was the person running around naked in the market hitting people with a shortsword all those years ago.
Anyway, the point is that there is room for mistakes. The community is nice and the DMs are patient.. >> <<… So jump in and enjoy, the possibilities are limitless.
p.s. If you're a grammar nazi, be wary of sendings...

@Amy:
Don't panic!!
Always carry a towel.Fixt.
When I first started back in… '0-something (maybe '04 or '05) I played a fighter rogue. I had no character concepts and probably no concept as a player. My back story was as simple as a slums orphan who wanted to be an adventurer. She told everyone she wanted to be an adventurer and asked them for advice and lo and behold there were a ton of characters ready to show her the ropes (and me the server) IC with a few OOC tells to clarify things.
That's what sucked me in. The player base has always been very welcoming and accepting of new comers and the stories that get told keep me coming back time and time again (no matter how many RL interruptions cause me to abandon characters).
Welcome.

I think The first words Oni, my main character, said were "wtf where do I get more gp?". this was in response to a friendly "hello" from another player. If you can do better than that, I am sure you will have a great time.
-
It was quickly and unanimously agreed that my first time on the server never be spoken of again.

I think during my first time I was playing a foul-mouthed halfling rogue with a tendancy to wear black. I was having a hard time getting started because I was new and no-one knew me well enough to hire me for thievery or spying. But then Terris's Malverick Anatara noticed my black clothing and decided he should probably help the obvious noob out by giving him some SPY WORK.
After that I was hooked.

My first character was this terrible dull Sheriff who never did anyth- Oh, right, I still play that character… You'll catch on quick! Loads of helpful people around, don't be afraid to ask questions or for help.
