Post Wipe Project
-
I have the give credit to Cunning Stunt for this and I don't know if it's been addressed beyond a locked thread, BUT…
Prior to the start of v3, Mr. Moloch, then Oroborous, strung together a major plot line using solicited character concepts from players. It was a cool way to spur early (and meaningful) action and intrigue once the wipe (TEH WIPE!) actually happened.
I think it'd be cool to devise something similar this time around if enough players are interested. I didn't weigh in with a concept the last time around, but I'd be on board for this. Plus, Cunning Stunt has already agreed to be our rented mule:
@Cunning:
If a wipe is agreed on, I'm volunteering myself to put together a massive joint background type thing.
Being level one with ready built allies, acquaintances and enemies was fun times. If CS and any willing players or DMs wanted to develop something like that, I don't see why we couldn't put together a request for character proposals and get the ball rolling.
Thoughts?

It was a amazing amount of fun. starting with a rough concept for a character… with very rough idea of goals, just as a real person has... and then finding out as the massive intertwined plots got revealed how one's vague goals fit into the larger picture of things.
-
Would be nice to not only have friends out of the door by enemies too. Perchance we could build concepts that already hate or rival each other from the get go to create dramatic conflict right when the new version opens up!
-
Welcome back Tricks!
I'm still up for this game, probably best when we're closer to a start time, and we have a vague idea on new factions and stuff.
-
A great idea. Could be also done if there's no wipe.

True enough. I've put the cart before the horse here, I suppose, but it's a neat idea nonetheless. Given the existence of the Group Concept forum, this would be a little superfluous though. At any rate, it's something to consider as v5 approaches.

holy crap someone opened the hobbit door and let him out
is a good idea though

Given how successful the last post wipe project was I would be in full support of this. However, as CS said we don't really enough much about v5 so it would be hard to come with a solid concept until more information is released.

I want in.

Sounds like fun.

I'm not sure "solid concepts" are needed. If I recall the v3 one, Moloch (the perspon who took on the massive work of coordinating and planning) would probably take "general concepts" with backgrounds and then come up with goals and such that fit in with the over-all plot.

I be game for something like this, as long I get to do a druid. 8)

Blasphemy! No druids allowed!
Jokes aside, I think the more concepts the merrier and the more diverse they are, the better. On the response generated by this post alone, there ought to be enough creativity to develop something special. As I said before, I didn't enlist last time around and I regretted it. That's not to suggest those who choose not to be part of this would miss out or be excluded; quite the contrary, in fact. For instance, Games and Krystia Kross (god bless her soul) recruited several players and their characters after their own were far along in their personal plot.
That sort of universal involvement would be in line with the goals for this concept, methinks.
Since the DM staff has yet to decide how to proceed with v5, all of this is a little premature. Even so, these discussions should guide the sort of fun and roleplay that attracted many of us to CoA in the first place.
In my case, had it not been for a few kind players and DMs willing to teach me the ropes, I might have abandoned my efforts here altogether. (Kudos to Mr. Moloch, Angry Squid, Gurb, Crosswind for that; you guys should have run me off when you had the chance.) Given that so many of us have similar origins in Arabel, it's only proper we pay it forward by welcoming new players (and old) with that same support and knowledge.

I like this idea Tricksy.
The original idea was something I came up with just as a player, thinking it would be fun to help everyone deal with the wipe (the worst part of which was erasing many characters who had friendships and histories together) by ensuring that all these new characters had events that would tie them together.
Ultimately, and largely because games and Krystia made incredible efforts to propelling the plot along by involving more and more players in it, (and I had been made a DM in the interim) I gave them a starring role in the project that eventually turned into the Bresk plot and later scripted quest.
If you are interested in starting off v5 with a blast, I'd definitely work with Tricsky on this one. What I'd asked for as a player was essentially this:
forum.cityofarabel.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=54140
If it was done again, I'd think this time people should include the general idea of their character, and their play times, and the players should try to work out relationships before they start. Too many people lost track of the project once v3 started because they weren't "brothers" or from the same village or the characters were suppose to be loaners. The more links between players, the better I should think.
I may make a little announcement on Saturday morning that can help spur it along at least a little. Watch the forums.

Any idea's on the basic shape of V5 yet? Is it going to be be fresh start (as in V3 and V4 never happened), time skip or more a case broad strokes of the past, but basically fresh?

Sounds good. I'll be in #CoACharacters today after work (around 6 p.m. EST) if anyone wants feedback on a concept, or just an extra set of eyes and ears.
