Crafting Costs!
-
Hey guys,
Threw this together with Wargtands help. Plugged in the GP cost formula's and spell values. Has a box at the top where you change the number of charges per wand and it spits out gold cost for crafting.
EDIT:: Added Attune Gem costs into Table! Just plug in Caster/Spell Levels to get the costs.
Enjoy

Nice, very simple to use and works with either Excel or Open Office.
-
now make it into a google document so we can use it online and it would be super awesome.
-
And, I thought it was so much fun finding this kind of thing out In Character
-
It leads to very, very expensive mistakes.
There's a fine line between cold stats and making interesting characters. It's up to the player base to make the cold stats interesting, not obstuficate things until no one knows wtf is going on. >.>
-
But who wants to RP a bad business person?
-
Should make more sense to know how much something is going to take to craft anyway. Not just "Lets just throw my wand on the table and see how much gold its suddenly going to suck away from me"
I think Bacon already made a list though somewhere…although it had just one or two wrong costs.

[spends ALL the gold making something, thinking it'd cost a fifth as much.] "YAY!!!!!!!!!!" [dies of extacy and poverty]
-
yeah, losing all your gold in one order great fun. Thanks for this Organized_Chaos

If this were to be made available in-game, an Appraise check could be scripted to make it give the right numbers, with a large margin of error for financially ignorant characters. :D

I have open office but I can't seem to figure out which program to use to open it.
I feel like an idiot asking, but can I get a little help?

Top post edited as well, so the new files don't get lost.

puts a wand on the table and casts a spell. All his gold in his pouch vanishes, leaving him penniless.
Having this document is much more logical than the above. Thank you for your effort!

Probly better than scripting a 'test cost' thingy into the game.
I used to drop my gold on the floor, or hand it to a trusted friend, then cast the spell, but honestly thats quite silly.

I didn't have to pick what to use, I just double clicked the file, but it opens in OpenOffice.org Calc
-
I updated my OO but it won't open automatically. I did get it open though.

Doesn't work for Attune Gems, either. You just get a message that you don't have enough gold. Doesn't tell you how much you need.

Alright "Spell Value" and "Cost of Wand" Can I get those words translated?
Is one of those XP loss and the other GP loss?
Sorry if I'm just being unobservant. :)

Spell value is an internal constant used to get at the wand cost in GP via a formula that takes into account the number of charges, too ( #charges x 11 x spellvalue / 1000 = GP cost). The XP cost doesn't seem to be in the sheet for wands. It's not influenced by the number of charges (I have an IC post about that somewhere). A 4500 'value' spell seems to cost 90 xp, and a 2500 'value' spell 50, so it seems the XP cost is just spell value divided by 50. (To do this in your head quickly just first divide by 100 then double. You cna of course just add a column to the sheet too.)
Another thing not in the list is the number of crafting sessions needed to complete the item. This is based on the GP cost of the wand, not the 'value' of the spell, so less charges can mean less sessions needed. A 25 charges Stoneskin wand (5775 GP) takes 5 crafting sessions, a 3093 GP Dispel Magic wand takes 3 sessions. Formula seems to be to divide the price by 1000, drop any remainder to get the number of sessions needed, but at least 1 session is needed (so anything up to 1999 GP costs 1 session, 2000 to 2999 costs 2 sessions etc.)
Notes:
Last time when the prices were all hitched up by ten percent, 'they' didn't adjust the Spell Value, but just changed a factor from '10' to '11'. Most spells of a certain level have the same base cost, healing spells are generally cheaper.P.

XP cost is rarely in the triple digits for anything, and number of crafting sessions doesn't affect character mechanics. Just time.
This was made from DM posted information so people wouldn't have to trial and error their way through 20k in gold guesstimating gold costs.
If you can get me the /exact/ XP and crafting session formulas, I'll add them in and repost new uploads.
