Letter to Count Immerdusk

Fine Count Immerdusk
I am a recent recruit to the Crown Guard and I come from a common background. This will likely mean I will rightly remain my current rank within this fine organisation; I would not want to climb above my station.
However, whilst my background will be seen by some as a detractor, it gives me an ability to blend in more easily with the common man. To that end I think it is my duty to bring to your attention the negativity which is levelled at this institution regarding the registration of Sorcery within Arabel.
I believe it right and just that these individuals should be on a registry, but I feel a better custodian and monitor of the registry would be either Adrian Iverlesk apprentice of House Mossmere or Lady Gallica, of the recently established Arcane Guild.
This subtle change would cool the temperature of the common man, assuaging any fear that we are going to arrest and imprison any sorcerers whilst still enabling us to uphold this excellent law for the good of those same people who do not understand it’s purpose.
As a final note; whomever is in charge of writing the bulletins for the proletariat to read would perhaps be better suited to hosing down the prisoners - a task which does not threaten the peace if those on the receiving end are enraged.

We must stand behind our policies and not buckle when confronted with the first sign of resistance. The rabble do not dictate our actions, we do as we must, as is in the best interest of the realm, popular or not.
That said, I am not married to the registration, it was spearheaded by a now retired party of the Crown Guard, nonetheless if we do not stand behind our announcements we risk appearing limp-wristed.
Discuss the policy with colleagues and reach a consensus on how to move forward and inform me of your recommendation.
But know that I loathe to appear meek and will not be seen to bow to public pressure. Appearances are important in our world.
Immerdusk.

To comment on Immerdusk's words, Crownguard Swiftfoot, ultimately, the announcement by the Monarchy was to make nobles take responsibility for the actions of mages in their demesne.
As long as the Fellowship is willing to take responsibility- legally, financially, and ethically for the behavior of mages in their ranks or 'protection'- and will stand trial should the mage not do so in their stead, we can potentially have an accord.
After all, if they are willing to vouch for a potential mass-murderer, animator of the dead, summoner of demons, or what have you...
They are willing to stand for them and accept their punishment if they themselves do not, no?
I am sure our Monarchs would agree with such a liberal interpretation of the new mandates. After all- responsibility is important.
If you can get their membership to sign off on such a deal, then it would look very well for you indeed.

Thank you Ser. I have approached Alain and allowed 24 hours to accept the terms or face arrest.
Let’s hope this matter closes without the need for us to bring them in. I fear that they are becoming something of folk hero’s among the commoners and bringing them in might cause further unrest. Particularly as it would not be an affair without violence.
I don’t think reticence to arrest them should be seen as limp wristed inaction; after all what is our job if not to uphold the peace?

Letter sent with copy to Count Immerdusk and Guardsman Halvric. Further copy to be left on Rauf’s desk
Dear Sirs,
It would appear my diplomatic efforts are being rewarded and this matter will be closed shortly.
It has been agreed that Lady Rosa will assume control of the registration until such time as her efforts are decided to be ineffective.
Importantly, this will also bring Alain and his band of fools into line.
You might think me, as a commoner, a useless little upstart, but I hope you can also see that this wouldn’t have come to a conclusion without my personal efforts. There would have undoubtedly been bloodshed and the Crown Guard would have appeared weaker with trust in the institution being damaged severely.
I am unfortunately away at the moment but Crownguard Rauf @PetriDish can be trusted to bring the matter to a close.
Ash
