Arabel's Rat Problem
-
Seems the big city of Arabel has a growing infestation of rats. So much so that large amounts of rat droppings are everywhere which is creating quite the health hazard. Hunting down rodents isn't quite what I expected to be doing, but it's a good cause I can get behind. I haven't really heard or read anything about any trappers, so I decided to put some of my skills to work.

It seems the rats are mainly coming up through the sewer access grates around the city. I headed down and planted eight or so minor fire traps, two or so in roughly each cardinal direction. I tried to set them aside of any main walkways so if anyone did happen to wander by they might avoid the snares. I heard some of the bird people live down there. I baited each one with some Garlic and Onion chips. The strong odor should be enough to get the attention of those rats. In the meantime I've made several more, enough for two or three more cycles. I'll have to wait a few days to see if the traps are having any effect on their population. If not I'll have to see about putting together some stronger ones.

It seems that whatever is down there with the rats has shown some sort of intelligence. Some speak of were-rats, lycan creatures. When I returned to check on my traps, I found nothing but the corpse of a cat. I decided to upgrade my traps to a more powerful sort. Deadlier than the previous and more concealed, and I've placed more traps around the places where I found the most concentration of rat dung. Hopefully these ones will fair better than the last. Now all I have to do is wait and see.

Fellow Balmore,
Keep up your good work. Every small act will lead to more information, even if it is piecemeal.
When our time aligns, I shall head into the sewers with you. Perhaps we could scout the sewer system and chart it? I would like to know every dark corner and hole that is down there. Unearthing the wererat's nest would be a good start, so that we might flush them out or capture them while they are sleeping... if they even sleep. I will admit, I do not know much of these creature's habits.
Anyway, I will forward your name to Lawkeeper Mirai, as she is working with the Crown Guard to also eliminate this problem and shall be of assistance to you.
