Sir Everduke, Regarding Were-Rats
-
Sir Everduke,
I have come across several pieces of information from various places indicating that Officer Elsa Brown and Officer Daleroy Farmerson have had individual dealings with the two Were-Rats presently residing in the city.
The people who have told me these things refuse to write statements about them. One of them is dead. Another is too close to the rats. Of somewhat more dubious note, I was lured into meeting them in what I presume is their human forms in a tavern one evening when someone called for a Priest of Tyr and noted that they were aware of things only someone in the Crownguard could be mindful of. When I pointed this out, they made no particular secret that they had both worked for and paid off the Crown Guard at one point or another and wanted to pay me off as well, offering me information on the case I was working on regarding Fyevarra in exchange for looking the other way regarding the sewers. Naturally, I rejected this and did not use it in the trial.
Now that we are back to looking at the regular problems of the city, I wanted to apprise you of this situation while I am still investigating so that if I come to harm, it will be known, at least to you and the Count.
I have accepted onto the roll a Tormtar by the name of Arthur, who pointed out to me that as Fyevarra is no longer a noble, it is within our ability to investigate the Oldflower Estate without a warrant. I have asked him to pursue this and told him what he is searching for and that if he needs my authority, I will intervene for him. It is half a test to see how he does and half to see if he finds anything to corroborate these claims.

The Queen herself have taken precaution against these vermin with the assistance of the Church of Talona, no doubt the Crown Guard would benefit greatly if one of our own managed to trap the rats. Keep up the good work.

Sir Everduke,
The were-rats themselves are Talonite.
Without slandering the Church of Talona, it was recently brought to my attention that there are allegations that the were-rats may collude with the Church of Talona in Tilverton.
I have taken the liberty of writing to the local Shrine of Selune requesting the expertise of one of their priesthood. If necessary I will pay their speaking fees, myself.

Sir Everduke,
Having consulted with a couple of the adventuring populace, we have devised the following general schema of events:
As the Malagent de Verthan has been previously accused of assisting the were-rats AND
As the woman who was slain in the Clover district was seeming to allege that there were were-rats in Tilverton prior to her death AND
As the Duke of Tilverton shortly after that issued a bounty on the were-rats AND
As Officer Brown, whom I have evidence against as having contact consistent with the were-rats, was recently summoned by the Malagent de Verthan to Tilverton, returning only to request sick leave AND
As the Church of Talona, despite 'protecting the Queen' has refused to decry the were-rats or provide any material assistance hitherto AND
As the were-rats are Talonite themselves. We can conclude that it is likely that Malagent de Verthan, official clergy of Talona, is somehow in league with the were-rats and is using the special legal protection of the Duke to offer them material support, which, if true, under the Kingdom's law constitutes an act of treason.
I propose that we go through the necessary hoops to request authorization from the Duke to place a warrant on the property of the Church of Talona and the person of Malagent de Verthan herself to acquire any evidence that could corroborate this theory.
Even if we do not find anything the intention is actually to 'piss off' the Malagent, and get her to send her rats out to slay whomever it is that has pissed her off, which in this case would be - me.
I will afterward make some sending about going to someplace out in the woods away from the city of Arabel, or make it known that I am in some specific spot - here perhaps - and have adventurers standing by with silver weapons and all necessary martial arrangements to close the jaws of the trap around the were-rats.
If I am incorrect, we have only been exercising due diligence and the Adventurers, in this case, are unpaid anyway.
Do we have any precedent for acquiring this writ from the Duke, or should I go up to Tilverton to request his assistance in person?
