Wizards and Arcane spell slots
-
I am not putting this directly into the Suggestions as I guess it would end up being "asking for something that requires more effort than it is worth for what you get out of it". Having said all of that, one thing I miss from PnP is one more thing that sets Wizards and Sorcerers apart.
Sorcerers just have slots and fill them spontaneously with any spell of the appropriate level, while Wizards ready their minds and study to fill there slots with desired spells. The big difference comes in the fact that in PnP a Wizard is not required to fill every slot available at the begging of the day.
I notice you cannot currently do this in NWN, and am not sure if it is even possible, but a big factor in PnP Wizards is the flexabity (i.e. the right spell at the right time). This can be achieved by the Wizard leaving slots open, and once getting information, spending 15 minutes to ingrain a new incantation into any unused slot of the appropriate level to suit the situation. You would only be able to use a slot that was not used that day, nor the previous 8 hours before your "rest" period.
If there was a way to add this to the server, I think it would be a huge improvement on how spells are selected the current way. Anyone think this is possible?

Actually, that's not how it works in PnP (or at least how it has been working for me). You pick the spells at the morning and you are stuck with those.

Spell Selection and Preparation
Until she prepares spells from her spellbook, the only spells a wizard has available to cast are the ones that she already had prepared from the previous day and has not yet used. During the study period, she chooses which spells to prepare. If a wizard already has spells prepared (from the previous day) that she has not cast, she can abandon some or all of them to make room for new spells. When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open. Later during that day, she can repeat the preparation process as often as she likes, time and circumstances permitting. During these extra sessions of preparation, the wizard can fill these unused spell slots. She cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because she has cast a spell in the meantime. That sort of preparation requires a mind fresh from rest. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if the wizard prepares more than one-quarter of her spells.

This would be represented by the Wizard simply resting (whether you're sitting still for 1 hour or 20 minutes really doesn't make much practical difference) when he would take the time to 'change' his spells.
In areas where the wizard can't rest, the danger is so high he can't concentrated for those 20 minutes safely. -
Fireblood basically summed it up. You're actually at a higher advantage in NWN since you get to refresh all of your spells every time in any way you want. As your source said; you need to rest to get a fresh mind in order to prepare new spells anyway. Here you got resting and preparing combined into one.
Bringing bedrolls and a piece of tinder does wonders to those long adventures. Some longer quests even have resting areas.
