Getting Back Into It
-
Hi folks,
Not sure if any of you remember me (Mr Burnall), but I used to play CoA a few years back and suddenly vanished.
Well that was due to a couple of kids and a new job, but now theyre a little older I have 'some' spare time again and I'm looking to get back into CoA.
Is there any required content to download anymore? ( I for some reason remember there used to be) and whats the likelihood of Burnall still being alive (ie not Vault Deleted?)
Thanks, Xzal.
Big Hi to Lizard/Tristane :p

There weren't a vault wipe since years, and there have never been any haks you had to download.
Just install the game, and log in!:)

All vaults not in current use were wiped some time back. A backup was kept for a bit. I am not sure that the backup will still be around.
I'd encourage you to roll up a new character anyway as huge amounts have changed, including things related to Balance such as magic level of equipment.

Sorry for being inaccurate.
All I say is 'Welcome back!' then.;)

DUDE! Not only is Tristane gone but the Spindlethorne burned down. Great times, though, Burnall was an unforgettable character - that "traditional" last game of high-stakes blackjack at the end of every gala, between Tristane and Burnall, was always a blast (because I think I always won!).
Looking forward to seeing what you roll up next, but as people stated, Arabel's changed hugely since Burnall's time, with three or four new rulers since the civil war and at least one near-apocalypse; now there's a bunch of new factions lingering around. I'd suggest just making an honest greenhorn character and learn what the setting has become in game.

@ Abbot; well imagine my surprise when I see that not only is Burnall still on file, but so are my 5 other greenhorns :p
Marona Mathan's prodigee, Sarara Goldheart who stuttered so bad it took four lines to say a single sentence, Andrew Peter Roch who lived all of three seconds after throwing a rock at one of the Gibbs brothers.. aha I laughed when I saw them again.
@ Lizard; well damn, I liked Tristane but as you said; I'll be rolling a new character. Burnall is in all likelihood long dead by now ,his last action on Arabel was tearing down all his things burning them in a pile and going mad. If you read his diary it hints at this too what with his "strange powers" from "him" (basically he multiclassed into a Summoner and went mad).
Not sure what or who to roll now. Might make another dwarf, female this time with a small slight nod to Burnall buried in there somewhere.
Its going to be nice to check out Arabel now. Just have to keep killing off these greenhorns first :p

–Note contains OOC information--
Well for those who are interested; I've settled on my next concept. In contrast to Mr Burnall and his (stupidly) overcomplicated self-plot, charm an ettiquette; I've gone complete 360.
I give you my new Main Dredmir the Simple.
Dredmir is a Half-Orc (more Orc, than human), blue skinned, redhaired. Extremely dimwitted.
STR18
DEX14
CON18
INT6
WIS8
CHR6Now while it is extremely easy to just play the 'constant idiot', I'm not going to be doing that; Thanks to Toremil (Dredmir just calls him Tor) who took him to the library and found him a Common > Orc translation book, Dredmir is now going to be a bit of a slapstick character you might see stumble through your path (quite literally).
The current goal for Dredmir is for him to learn Common, however he will not just do so through reading his book (infact he has already eaten three pages, so much of it is missing anyway) I'll have him randomly pick up words through conversation, interaction and demonstration.
For example; Dredmir learnt the word Bird last night as he foolishly tried to help stave off the attack. He has also gained a hatred for birds because of this event and will prioritise his attacks against birds, regardless of other creatures present.
As expected, most people have been treating Dredmir as a Pure-Orc; which is also what I want for now.
Once he has learnt common, this won't mean the end of his naivety or idiocy though. I intend for him to be very suggestible, manipulatable and so forth.
Hope to see you around and... try not to get too frustrated with him. He can understand common you know (Well I use the word understand loosely)? Just not speak it.

Ah, the Spindlethorn. So fun watching it burn to the ground. Glad to have had a hand in that little fiasco. If they would've just let Ivy have her way, it might still be standing.
As to the OP, I seem to recall Burnall, though vaguely. Welcome back, either way.

What happened regarding Tristane & The Spindle et al? (just assuming its a dead plot now, if its not fair enough  )

I for some reason remember there being a bumper pack of Portraits available for download; but I can no longer find such a thing on the forum.
Has it been removed or hosted elsewhere (or am I just going insane?) I do know I am missing some portraits as on the fresh character creator screen there are quite a few portrait options that show up as just white squares.

If you mean Tristan (of Tristan's Trades), he was eventually killed (not sure by whom, since I was on vacation at the time). My character at the time (Isabella) took over his mercantile operation (and some other secret things he was up to). Eventually Bella was killed, and the Trade dissolved.
As for the Spindlethorn: Ivy, Crux, et al. tried to persuade them to offer some praise to Talona, and they didnt so we let spiders attack them. Then some idiot tried to burn away the spiderwebs with a torch and the whole place went up in flames.
Screenies are available here
