Fears

Zool, in general, the people who really enjoy PvP ARE the supermen of this server. In general, their only kryptonite is DM intervention, or boredom. when they finally beat down everyone they can, terrorize as many people as they can, tell there own awesome stories by climbing over the rest of us. The only chance Id ever have of beating one of these kryptonian invaders
is to get them while they are young before they have had a chance to get all their ducks in a row, and do just what I hate being done to me. I won't play that way. I dislike gang jumping the bad guys as much as I hate being ganked.any way, as for fear? right now, this very minute, Im standing in the council chambers with Sam, afraid to do anything with her.
hows that for rping fear?

You know, i used to get my ass whooped in pvp every single time when i was starting out. It took me a few days of someone showing me the ropes and then a few times of try and fail to get in the mentality to not panic and know when to use what. It's not hard and there's CERTAINLY no supermen on CoA…..

says one of the badd assed of them all :-)
-
Well, i decided to learn BECAUSE i kept getting my ass handed to me every time….

If you want to win more mechanical fights then you have to either learn to win or learn to RP losing and find another way to win. It's part of the video game. People can impose their will on you if you piss them off and there are lots of ways to beat them other than just trying to smash them back.

The whole reason Minion wrote that post was for my psychoanalysis experiments. She was the only person at the time who had submitted something I could use to help a player tell a story. Most people up to now have been giving me things like,
"My character isn't afraid of anything, and his hope and dream is to be the richest badass around and get a vorpal sword +5."
Minion's character's fear (at the time of her original post) was illithid. Mortally terrified of them to the point that her character would freeze up, unable to take action. I used (abused) this fear in a one-off event for her. And her response was amazing. And real.
I mentioned to her oocly of my disappointment with the responses I had gotten so she made the post to encourage others to think about their characters' innermost fears.
This was NOT supposed to devolve into a discussion about PVP. But like every discussion or suggestions post ever made, that is precisely what has happened!
Thanks.
Now back on topic before I lock it and hand out bans.

Oh, so the fear thing wasn't one off and we can still submit it?
-
Yes. That's the point.

It was a small even but let me tell you it was EPIC!!! Very exiting and very real, it was fun to get to RP a fear and get all wrapped up in it. I recommend it to everyone to give their PC a fear others (and DMs!) can exploit.
Kelkara's fear of Illithid was even a big part of her ending and I think its one of the best retirement event I ever had for a PC.
There are so many fears you can use.
Can be a fear of a creature (bears, spiders, illithids, beholders, horses, drakes, etc)
Fear of a natural environment thing (fear of water, lightning, acid, fire, lava)
Situational (tight spaces, large crowds, of the dark, of bright light, etc)
Any sort of phobia (there is a very long list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ph ... conditions)Pick one for your PC and role with it. I dare you. (and share it with Echo so she can come and terrorize you  )

With PvM, creating true fear in an RPG is a very difficult task because there’s an innate expectation that the “Good guys [PCs] will win in the end”. With that expectation in mind, of course we don’t take it seriously when you, the DM, threaten to blow our characters all off the face of the earth. We then get annoyed when we die because we charged the band of 30 Fire Giants!
I'm looking at a concept that will incorporate a fear of a particular monster. However, I'm rather stuck on how to roleplay that fear. I'm really not wanting to portray the "Run Away! Run Away!" model.
Discuss.

Paralyzing fear is one of the more common ones, standing there is utter terror pissing yourself as your worst fear starts walking up to you and all that jazz.
