I am posting this because I have heard a number of rumblings about this, so I want to explain what actually happened and appeal to people to be mature about this stuff.
Finding the Wheat King's head was an entirely DMless plot. All major groups were notified that finding it would result in promotion. PCs I knew to be working on this were given special clues, offered special perks, etc, but the plot was ultimately solvable by anyone.
No, I did not announce that it was DMless, I want players working on -all- plots as if they were DMless. Many of the ones I run -will be-. I can tell you there are other DMless plots currently implemented that require players to take it upon themselves to push.
Folks interested in these need to be actually out looking for things, trying to solve them, working on pushing stuff on their own.
I like DMless plots because it gives players things to do even without a DM IG, and opens plots up across time zones. Yes, it means a new PC, random adventurers, whatever, might find it and beat you. You will need to be mature and deal with it when it happens.
