Dr. Quickfix, or How I Learnt to Stop Listening to Players
-
This thread in particular is just a rehashed compilation of what has been said and pointed out in the now closed V5 discussion threads. Streamlining the city, more focused factions, that shit ain't happening no time soon now. But they have all the info on this already. Just need players…and to have players, they must play...now.

How do people feel about a Community Council consisting of both players and DMs? The council's job would be to provide a clear link of communication between both the playerbase and the DM team where issues like these could be brought up and addressed. It could possibly help and I'm curious as to what other people think.
If the DM team were full time and could respond in a timely fassion to requests from a community council, this might be something we could look at. As it is, the DMs work in their own free time and dedicate as much or as little to the server as they feel appropriate for them. That means that the Counil will frequently ask for changes and the the DM team will end up not responding because none of them are able to put the time in. As such, there will be a disconnect again between requests for change and whether or not these are implement.
At present anyone can propose changes, anyone can then discuss these changes and the DMs review this and add their own comment. If a change gets enough positive comment and is achievable in our setting, with the time available, we, the DMs are delighted to implement it. I cannot see how a Council can do any better than this. It is as likely to be considered by the playerbase as another elitist group.

@Broken:
Never in this post have I bitched about what the server is but what the server can do. Systems, plot suggestions, setting tweaks, shit that the DMs can look at and thread into their plans for V5. I have looked subjectively on rival servers, the measures of their success and attempted to find points where a new player might find the others superior - including but not limited to; setting immersion, server features, emphasis and recognition for player characters, and DM activity times ect, ect.
I would like to also something to BG, lavish and Caek: You guys are amazing players, but I believe you forget something about movers and shakers - In RL these great shapers comes once or twice in a generation natuarally. Others are made and taught to be ones. Perhaps you guys should help with that? Take new players with potential and teach them, make them into movers and shakers.
I have no idea why you are throwing me in with Hinx and Caek; Infact, I wrote something that preaches to do exactly what you've just said.
Mate I'm not attacking any of you. I teamed you three in the group of people that could help evolve more movers and shakers. Thats all.
If anything its respect and faith in your skills :) -

Rehash, redux, Tarantino remake, call it what you like. At its core it probably is. I've personally got what I wanted from this thread. If the DMs can't see a use for it any longer, they can lock it.
But yes, in the end, all the changes can be implemented but if the playerbase doesn't change along with it, it might just be wasted effort. Faction-based players in particular I think should be the ones taking a good hard look at themselves. The (arguable) mistakes of V4 have hopefully been learned but it is still V4 at the present moment, and it is up to players to see it through.
Just get the war over and done with, tbh.

We have this now…It is called the General Discussion. Don't need to stick a label on it! There is a suggestion forum as well.
And Stooge, as far as being bold, engaging, interesting, letting DMs know, play a person not a class…
You can do all these things, yet, If, as a non-faction character, your plot involves factions, or perhaps NPCs... Then it doesn't matter.
Your arranged allies and minions wander away or die after waiitng for months...
Because factions are so stuck in the mud and dont do squat, even when their goals are handed to them on a silver platter, all they have to do is say "yes".
And you can wait forever for a NPC to respond to things.I think this is a very jaded view of how things actually work. I assure you, I have done the things I spoke about and they do work. I didn't really play factions as a player, because I didn't want to be held back by NPC's. You have freedom in your own plots to almost do what you want. BG sums things up well in the other post.

One VERY important aspect I psyco analyzed myself to yesterday eve… Dont differentiate players so much, in what you give them. I looked at people like Hinx, Cake, their "patterns" in term of what they got from their applications, and how long they lasted. I then looked at my own sheets, the exact same... I may be horrible wrong, but I did notice a pattern.
The MORE you get at startup, the more BORING things become. The EASIER it is, the less appreciative I am of what I get.The characters of mine which lasted the longest, were the ones who didnt have Epic loot from the get go. Who didnt have All faction perks, Insane combat gear, upper strength, both mechanical and RP from day one. Holy cow that is boring.
In this, factions like the Varlet Inquisition without dm support, is actually rather interesting, because you dont just become a full fledged member in a day. You need to work for it. You dont get ALL the loot from the beginning.
Imagine if all Red Hart knights HAD to start as a Squire. If except Subraces, EVERYTHING had to be earned IG. Let time be a factor.
Olouth creates a hip swaying LG paladin of Tyr. Applies at day one, for Aasimar subrace and Red Hart faction.
Gets subrace, needs to be a squire for a minimum of 1 month. I work my ass off, trying to impress. Build up a network. I gather others who wish to return law to the lands. We form a secret network.
After the first month, of doing alot of awesome, I become a knight errant. AWESOME!
After another 2 months, my group and I finally get a hideout, and an npc backing us.
Month three, we get an npc shot owner who lets us buy uniforms, non magical.
In month 5, I get champion of Tyr, and become a full fledged knight! Through this, I get a glowing sword, by almost dying on a perma death dm quest!
Month 6, I die in an epic duel against a PC member of Cyrics church. I retire, a good run. I earned every piece of loot, I earned my stars. In month 6, about three weeks before I retire, I see a new face. Sir SmileAlot. He has applied, and recieved noble title, secret hideout, Angel Guardian, Holy sword of Horus, Planatar subrace, full faction recognision. When he walks into the Pride, every NPC already addresses him like a hero…
So, I decide to take a few days off after my character died. When I log onto the forum after a small break, I notice a post on the validation part of the roleplayer recognision thing. I figure AWESOME, someone said something awesome about my character. No... It was just a post from Sir Smilealots player, saying he retired out of boredom. These examples are are way over the top, but so to get the point across. If you get everything from day one, what is left to earn? If the dms lets you kill Queen Lhal at day three, what are they going to do next? Because you will want more. When you have +2 loot all around or better, what is he going to give you? MORE glowing swords? When you have already killed 3 dragons, what is he to spawn to "entertain you", because you are bored, you can solo every high lvl quest, and you have more loot than god.
When my first character on CoA recieved a MASTERWORK weapon, wirh +1 dam, I was in awe. I loved that rapier more than anything. Yet, with Sophia Silverscale, the dms couldnt reward me with loot. I already had glowing weapons, +3 or better equalent. I had THREE rings so potent two were non drop. Despite my 10 dex, I had 27 ac vs evil. My goal was to change the rulership of the server, and I bitched and moaned when dms didnt have time to allow me to do this 10 times a day.
I was a FREAKING SPOILED BRAT!
Dont expect the dms to change everything. Start with yourself. Change your own attitude. If you dont have any friends online today, make NEW ONES. if you cant find high lvls to quest with, use that 500 gold to involve others, by bringing them to the haunted halls, and give the lowbies 500 gold to search that odd grave thingy, for Legion supports.
Instead of buying Heal Potion number 10, use your gold to equip EVERY member of your race who logs in, with start equipment, and sent them off on their first quest, telling that half orc, if your new friend doesnt come back alive, he wont either.Stop bitching over tells to the dms or to each other. Instead, tell something fun. A joke. Or "did you see last night? I took like 10 people out looking for that werewolf stank, didnt find her, but we did find some new quest i hadnt seen before!"
No more bitching, no more complaining. The glass is half full.

I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It's Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . . -
I'm tempted to lock on the back of that, Stooge.
