Plots and RP
-
I do not mean to offend anyone in this topic therefor no names will be used and I do not intend to use names anyway because it seems to be a general thing. Last time I played the plots were alot more fun, there was a ample amount of rp in it. It was about speaking and going through the quest meating DM controled NPCS and gathering information, now it seems that DM's just spam a bunch of monsters, let the players advance, spam, advance, big boss fight with really big monster. What happened?

People hack and slash more then talk lately. Legion plots have a good amount of diplomacy and forethought though.
Of course some battles will always be for the sake of extermination.

Last DM run event I was on personally involved ZERO combat, was just pure RP, and lead to even more fun.. just saying.
And yes, it was a Forsaken Legion thing.. join today!

There is more quests then that around firstly.
Second, the big fight quest like the sky golems are the only few generally known by everyone, in COA each small group Dm and non dm factions and players hold a small piece of the puzzle.
95% of the quests in this server you'll never find out IC and probably about 70-80% you'll never find out OOC.
I taking one Example we had for a fun non combat quest… we were off doing a normal Scripted quest me and my party, we get "My boss" to tell us there is an escaped imp in here we need to capture it, besides the scripted quest the only combat thrown at us was one imp which vs the high levels we are we could effortlessly kill. But the fun was the what the dm did with the Imp and certain PC's reactions to it.
That was quite a fun (of many) Non combat i have seen.

This has been my experience with the current plots. They've been all about rp, with very few actual monster fights. Most of them have been player driven. Unless you are referring to DM events? I don't see many of these, because of my TZ, so I'm not sure I can comment.
However, I want to encourage anyone who feels left out of the current plots to go ahead and try and join in. Straight up ICly ask players you know are involved in a plot how you can be included, or what you can do. I think you will find most will try to come up with a role for you to play, no matter what your character. You don't need to join a DM faction to be involved or have fun.
I am always happy to give people information on whatever I know is going on, even if they want to join the opposing side.

Jcbjcb I think you're just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I'm a new player in relative therms, I've only started playing on arabel last January. And I've been gone all server, meaning I've got less than half a year under my belt.
Still, my second character was based entirely off RP plots, and holy crap was that fun, I had more than I could handle's worth of plots and they where pretty fun.
You just have to be at the right place at the right time.
The formula for being in the right place at the right time is 2 parts luck, 3 parts go getter attitude, and 5 parts being around for extended periods of time so that your odds of being there when fun stuff happens are higher.

Or you can just start your own plots, make them fun.. involve as many others as you can, and make sure you periodicly send messages to the DM channel while doing so. You could even go onto IRC and see if a DM is around to talk to about your plot, some even accept forum PMs. The IC Diary section is a good way to help the DMs keep tabs on your plots to.
This way they can see what is going on, and perhaps take part in it helping push your plots forward. That way you can make the plot whatever sort of plot you want. Just be willing to let things change the course of your plot from time to time due to IC actions and roll with the punches.

What you say is right. There is a "but" though. DM quests that involve hack and slash, dealing with hordes of monsters are the ones that involve more people. The ones more widely known. And the ones you have more chances to randomly happen in. DM quests that involve almost no fighting at all are out there, but they tend to involve intrigue and politic, and therefore happen more "behind the curtain". You will have little chances to randomly stumble upon one, and you will not hear about it in the rumors thread, or just by walking down the road.
-
If a quest is like OH NO GIANT MONSTER(S) ATTACKING CITY then everyone goes to it and its hack and slash.
The majority of quests I've seen are more RP or Exploration based.
Personally, good mix of hack n slash with RP from what I've seen. I personally don't like full quests that don't involve -any- combat (usually), but yeah…so far so good.
-
You have to be involved in plots and RP to see the DM quests that have RP and plotting, is what they're getting at.
The others ones tend to be big things that everyone knows about, and has a chance to jump in on. One shot modules.
-
There are plenty of intricate/ non spambat DM interactions to be had. Just for example is the event us Half-Orcs had a short while ago in the slums (as mentioned in the rumours thread).
That was 95% talking, plotting etc and 5% fighting. And plenty fo people stumbled into it requiring a lot of RP'd ushering off :p
-
You can sort of think of it as hack and slash events are public, as in anyone can join in.
While the ones with more RP and story are more or less "Private" events, in that you have to be involved with certain people IC to know about them.
-
Large events have to be hack and slash or else there'd be to much confusion that why in more rp and private events it a party between 2-8 so the dm can keep his shirt on and not go nuts.
-
I do not mean to…... What happened?
at least three possible plot hook entries were beng talked about in your presence during a scripted quest the other day, perhaps you just need to keep your ears open more.
