Bullying

i wonder if this type of bullying is being done by relatively new players?
i think there may some who grieve who prefer to do so when they figure there are no dm's on
personally i avoid people who try to pick fights in game, or goad you into a fight, in a situation where they may know a rule abiding player will not cross certain lines.
make a character that cannot be drawn into a fight by mere goading..not easy :) but it is possible

It does beg the question of what the appropriate response would be for a rule abiding player. Currently the only thing to do is to leave the situation, even if there is a crowd.
If someone has already provoked PvP even verbally somewhere probably not allowed, am I correct in my thinking that you're not allowed to respond in kind or with violence?

That's escalating.

That's what I thought, though thinking about it now I hardly ever see anyone who doesn't respond verbally themselves, doing the exact same thing right back.
I'm quite happy to continue the way I do (just make the best of having your hands tied, though ignore it ICly if possible). I just want to make sure I have the right idea about this.
What's the procedure? Report to DMs for every incident that you get forced into this situation? React ICly? OOCly Ignore? ICly Ignore?

Procedure -
Find out who they are.
Find out who their friends are.
Find them on a road.
Punish.

"Would you come outside the gate and say that again to my face, little bitch, or do you only feel like a man when you're hugging a guard's balls?"
-
I almost feel like deleting every post between the first and Gurb's.

I'm scared of everything. Bullies would just cut my self-esteem and make me want to jump off a cliff.
No seriously, I came across a character who said I was the first to seem scared of his character. I was like "Lol thanks" and wondered, with some sense of foreboding, if I had one of the most cowardly characters on server. But wait, that's not really bullying. Uuuh….
I don't have a real example.

That would have been me who said that, while playing a half orc I seem to remember?
It is staggering the lack of RP when it comes to showing fear. A little off topic for this thread maybe, but it still needs to be said. I know if someone had near torn me in half with a massive sword I wouldn't look at him the same way again if I came across him.
Maybe it's down to no-body wanting to seem like they are a lesser character, IC and OOC. Who knows!

Bullying is awesome.
Beating people down in front of guards is even more awesome. Get to it, grab a DM, go nuts. -
Effective bullying comes down to one simple decision: put up or shut up.
-
People need to remember not everyone shows fear in the same way.
I find it very boring to play a character who will just cower from one they fear. Most, if not all my characters react differently to fear, some of them probably unexpectedly, but its always consistent.
Again, off topic, but just my opinion.

Conflict for the sake of conflict is not a reason to bully people, especially in front of guards. If you build a character around this idea, I think it's lazy, uncreative and irresponsible. Make sure it makes sense to your character on either side of the interaction and that it's actually entertaining, instead of just assuming it's entertaining for everyone and not really trying. I feel that if you're going to play that obnoxious prick, you -have- to take the responsibility of OOC consideration. It's not an excuse for flagrant, platitude RP interaction.
