OOC recruitment: Free Arabel Border Jumpers

I think opening up the floor to your concept and just recruiting anyone who wants to play is pretty much an error.
Worked pretty well for me!

I used to think OOC recruitment should only be used for pre-creation concepts, but recently I decided that if making a recruitment post in the general discussion forum gets one or two people who wouldn't normally have decided to to get involved then it can't really be a bad thing. I think it just gives people another chance to consider joining an idea the would not have before. They'll still have to play out their characters meeting and whatnot when they do see eachother IG anyways, so they don't even really miss out on much no matter which way they got interested.
Still, anybody putting up ooc recruitments for things that can be recruited for IG should remember to focus on the IG part, since most times a colourful recruitment poster on the Bulletin boards will catch more attention (at least they do for me) then most posts in the general forum. Sendings are also good, but its hard to explain what your group is about without spamming the sending system. Its good for meeting with people who have seen your posts on the forums and want to talk, however.

Since my little joke has turned into a discussion on how to best recruit thread, I will add my two cents, since you all are forgetting the most important part; PATIENCE. Forum posts, either ooc or ic, tend to attract more often then not only those who are looking for the latest thing in hopes that this time they will join the faction/pc group/whatever that will get them dm loot/experience in abundance. When they find out they have to put in the effort to reap the rewards, they tend to jump on to the next thing as quick as they joined yours. I know personally, back when i dreamed up concepts that involved a lot of work, I wanted immediate results and a group that filled to the brim quickly. I feel like that happens with a lot of coa players still, which leads to a lot of disgruntled feelings when things don't pan out exactly how people envision them. Add in the pressure of putting your goals down on an app, and the feeling that you need to now do what you said you were going to do because big brother is watching, and logging into CoA can feel like torture. I know, it happened to me back when I played a noble.
The thing is, CoA is still just a game. We play it to relax, not get worked up. So, yes, sometimes things don't pan out, and you have to re-evaluate how you approach what you are trying to accomplish. Sometimes, you have to know when its time to give up (though people jump this gun far too early too often in my estimation). But I assure you, at the end of the day, its still just a game, suceed or fail, and even the DM's who read your app and watched you flounder through your goals understand that. If they didn't, after I had two years of failed apped characters, I would never get approved for a new app-ever. As it stands, the only complaints I get on my apps even to this day is my laziness when writting them.

Colourful posters help, but delivering awsomeness IG is much more attractive. Novo delievered awsomeness so folks wanted to be part of it. The factions and concepts that have gathered recruits have been ones that were changing things in CoA. If you are a player faction, the ONLY think you have to offer players is awsomeness.

You mean Lamancha? It was chosen from the name of as Scottish village about 15 miles south of Edinburgh, rather than La Universidad de Castilla La-Mancha!

OOC recruitment for an existing faction tends to suggest the faction is floundering and desperate, and I think that puts people off. Doing stuff IG, lots of IC forum activity etc… gets players excited and they roll up some characters. I remember Spinback's Banite priest. Started doing alot IG, and about 8 people saw this and rolled up banites.
