Crownguard Hostility
-
The crownguard called me to their den of oppression to issue threats hidden underneath kind and pretty words. The gist is they will attack the fellowship if our spellcasters do not register within a tenday. I have invited them to the wood to test their strength should they wish to prove their might. I am prepared to fight to the last. Live Free and Kick Evil Butt!

Which Crownguard were involed?

Arden,
You may of course teach the Crownsguard some humility- but ultimately, do not go to far as this may damage our standing with the monarchs.
While I am loathe to say diplomacy is the best solution here, a working agreement may be in our best interest.
That said, if they persist in their threats of life and limb, feel free to respond in kind.
If this goes before the Monarch, point out that they explicitly said that failure to report will not be a capital offense under any circumstances, and that they are being threatened with capital punishments for refusing to comply.

I swore I would not relent until one of their own dueled me in single glorious combat! I must keep to that oath but I can see how we want things peaceful for the Fellowship. I feel I have a way to go forward without bringing our groups to war but keeping the honor of my oath.

[Arden lazily throws a copy of the letter and his response in this file grumbling about paperwork when there is evil to kick]

Honestly I think Lady Rosa's surgestion look like a solid enough win to me. Especialy since it's looking like the time of words is drawing short.
She only taking down none senstive information. No list of bloodlines to abuse and the like.
She, a proven honorable woman, is handling the matter, so no moron with an agenda causing trouble.
Only established mages with decent power need to register, so the most vunerable are at no danger of being hounded.
And if the Crownguard reject this reasonable proposal, we can smash Adrain knees and look through his stuff for dodgy crap with a even better starting postion for the argument of power abuse!

I don’t like anyone having to sign a paper just to live. It is wrong. Would you negotiate with a vampire because they were reasonable? Civilization has made people soft to right and wrong…
-Arden

Lady Rosa has defang and neuted the worse dangers of the registeration. Is it a perfect outcome..? No, but we have to be pretty dam lucky and effective in the application of force to get that.
So we go with it for now.

You are pretty arrogant to make a decision regarding the life of our mages without their input. Unless you get an agreement from Alysia and our Archer friend, I will not allow you to agree to something that doesn’t even impact you.
-Arden-

Well there's a reason I'm not making any public statements before we've come to some kind of aggrement... our mages views are the most important, but I like to hear Sapphire's and the other members of this table views on all this as well.

The Arcane Guild version of registration is no less taxing than the crownguards, it merely deflects the critisism elsewhere. That said the only people that will withold their names are those that have reason to, so i dont care who takes the register more that there are those that will not comply whatever and those of us that do will be held responsible for the actions of those that dont.
That said all know that i call on the powers dormant in my bloodline to perform the feats i do, it is no secret so whether it is written on paper of in runes across teh sky what difference does it make?

Archer, have a chat with Alysia and you two decide how we go about this registration thing. You two are the ones affected, not me.

All but sorted this.
Lady Rosa organised a meeting with Crownguard Barrendor. Talked things over with him in Bospir's inn in a manly and understanding way, paid a fine and promised not to put up any posters about Arcane Registration matters or challenging the Crownguard over it.
He also wants us to send a letter saying we take responsibility for any of our members future actions, so someone other than me needs to send that.
On the Arcane Registration it seems it is going to be Lady Rosa system and she won’t be sending those details anywhere or organising any witch hunts… so no idiot apprentice or men in teal beating up innocent mages.
For bonus points Adrain was moaning like a child the whole time and getting told to calm down!
