DM Profiles AKA: Know Your DM! [Old]

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -4What kind of plots do you like to run?
I enjoy plots where the endings are opened ended. That pretty much anything can happen. I enjoy plots where the players are ready to both include other players (new and veteran) and show they are not afraid to work outside their 'comfort zone gang'.
Players that participate in my plots should expect to run afoul of other PC's. They should be prepared for Character Death, Loss of Level and Loss of equipment. They should also be prepared to fail.
Specifically, I enjoy having plots with flavors. I enjoy running things with Bizarre otherworldly aberrations, horrific undead, and I adore pretty much anything planar.
What kind of factions do you like to be involved with?
Active ones. If a faction is active and it's players make an effort to get things done, pursue the goals of the faction while blending them with their own, I will take an interest.
Nothing is more dull than a faction character that does nothing but says "I'm in a faction."
What do you like to do with your time in game?
Watch players. See what the characters are talking about. See how the characters and players react to situations that occur in game. Do some spice on quest or host mini-events that tie in with plots that I am running.
And I like to Grief Noobs.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I work. (At a small mom and pop grocery store)
I bike and walk. (To and from work. Considering I am usually awake for 17 hours, this means about 11% of my waking time is spent on a biking or walking some place.)
I drink Tea. (Alot of tea)
I read. (RPG source books, Various Novels of Various Genre's, and lots of comics - Currently reading BOOM!'s Fall of Cthulhu series.)
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
For 17 years.
Do you have a nickname?
TKiY, KiY or.. my 'favorite' KY… I'm a slippery one.
What is the best way to approach you?
To drop me a plot idea or let me know what your character is up to: PM on the Forums. It goes on the list of things to read. And eventually in a day or two gets read.
_To do something IG:_First and foremost, include others. I typically have little interest in running a scene for one person when I could be running a scene for four. That said, four to six people is my range. If there are more than Six people, 99% I will just ignore the group.
Go out. Start doing what ever it is you are doing. If your heading to the hulluck to hunt down Dirt Rats, go there and start looking for them, even though you know not a Dirt Rat shall be seen if a DM doesn't spawn one first. Go, explore, adventure. Find reasons to go to new and exciting locals.
THEN ask. Drop a note over the DM line that includes Who is going and why you are going there. Once or Twice is more than enough in one half hour period. If there is no response that means either the DMs are all busy, not interested or are setting something up for you.
That is the best way to get my attention.

What kind of plots do you like to run?
I love freaks, twisted dogmas and that sort of stuff. Plots that force players to makes moral choises and use wit rather than mechanical power to deal with obstacles.
What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
Religious cults especially the ones on the right side of alignment table, I like factions that are unpredictable in general and once the players don't necessary understand the first they see them.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
Yes, I play two PC games. Nwn and Battle for Wesnoth. I also do a bit of sports in the form of NHL on the 360.
What do you like to do with your time IG?
I mostly jump around looking for people outside of quests that are doing something interesting, I tend to atleast try to join people when they drop me a note in the DM channel about going out to do something cool. Besides that, I sit in the dark corners of the server and caress my pieces of loot that will never end up in player hands.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
No. I did start playing PnP two years back, though. Nwn CoA taught me it all.
Do you have a nickname?
This question makes no sense. Of course I have a nickname. Do I want to give it out for you guys to use? No. Unless they mean the nickname of my nwn account or this DM profile. It still makes no sense.
What is the best way to approach you?
Owls. I adore owls.
A forum PM will sometimes do, though I check the forums often real quick and forget to response later, you might want to drop a note while I'm IG or on IRC.

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -6, Missouri, USA.What kind of plots do you like to run?
Faction things because they're easier to maintain focus with
Undead stuff because undead is secksy
One shot quests and spiceups because those are my favorite as a playerWhat kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
Guards and knights are my favorite and always have been. I try to help out where needed, though! I've been DM for quite sometime but inactive just as much. I used to be involved a lot with House Fezznick when it was around. Now I just try to hop into a bit of everything. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I like to spice up quests and make random one-time quests. Usually I try to add ambience and life by having random NPC's/animals do things other than "AI patrol." I like a lighter touch, more comedic things, more often than not. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I live life. I'm married and I live on a very small plot of land where my wife takes care of several chickens and a few cows. She's the hick, I'm the nerd inside playing the video games still. She's a web designer, though, so she's still got a lot of cool merits.. so I forgive her "cows." I'm a barber, and I hate it, but it pays the bills.I play WoW sometimes, and anything that's fun and single player on Xbox 360. All party and Mario games on Wii (my wife makes me).
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Yes, but most of the people associated with it scared me. The females were bisexual man-things and the dudes were usually overly enthusiastic sad she-things. No, I didn't mix the two up.Do you have a nickname?
Dr. Drunk, Dr. PWhat is the best way to approach you?
Forum PMs by far.
I check the forums compulsively since I pretty much always have online access at work.If I get on IRC, it's usually when I'm drunk and incapable of helping anyone so that's not a good way to contact me.

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -5, Maryland, USAWhat kind of plots do you like to run?
Adventure. I'm a big fan of classic style D&D with dungeon delving excitement! I love stories and I love watching them become influenced and altered by those that participate. What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
Really just about any faction has the potential to grab my interest/involvement. Really all it boils down to is the potential of intrigue and story-telling. I admit I'm a bit bias'd towards factions that have fun to play NPCsWhat do you like to do with your time in the game?
I watch players more than they think. I like prodding events along, running little one-shot ordeals. Basically I like doing -something- when I log in. First thing I usually do is see who is running what, where and with how many people, then I lurk and watch as people weave their own little stories. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I'm in Car Sales as a profession, and do well enough in it.I do play other games; Starcraft 2, various console games (mostly RPGs) at work I play stupid little flash games :P
I do normal "social" things as well; movies with friends, dinners, drinking. The fun stuff in life. I balance it out with literature as well as scribing my own written works.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
A handful of games, but the group had people that liked "winning" too much and it got annoying that their characters broke the mechanics just for fun.Do you have a nickname?
Erm, not really. Cam does call me "Big C"What is the best way to approach you?
Politely. Provide complete information and a properly phrased question and you and I will get on fine. Feel free to PM me on the forums, or you can send an email (through my profile) and I'd be happy to help out with ideas, problems, etc. -
What timezone do you play in?
EST, -6 GMT. Vermont, USA.What kind of plots do you like to run?
I like big powerful bad guys and doomsday plots. I also like little one-shot events that screw with people's minds, but those only work when I can find players willing to play along. What kind of factions do you like to be involved with?
I like factions with clearly defined concepts. Goals and ambitions that are unique and interesting.Good Example: Deposed noble and his lackies trying to create their own new nation as a screw you to Cormyr.
Bad Example: An evil group of thugs looking to get money and power.
What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I mostly sit around and wait for players to do something interesting which I then proceed to either watch or spice. If I've got a plot going I'll do stuff with that occasionally. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
School, family, friends. Not big into partying.Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
I started playing PnP around the same time I started to play NWN. Must be going on something like eight years now.Do you have a nickname?
Little C, Cam, Camalot, The Cooler GmorkWhat is the best way to approach you?
IRC, PMs and IG tells work. But I'm very forgetful, lazy and go AFK for hours on end so getting in touch with me can be very difficult no matter what medium you use. -
What timezone do you play in?
UK GMT.
What kind of plots do you like to run?
I enjoy traditional D&D style quests for artifacts or to defeat great monsters or such. I enjoy quests that allow people to step beyond the mechanics of an NWN server or allow them to use inovative tactics or solutions to problems. I enjoy developing quests over a few sessions.
What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
"Good" factions tend to attract me more than "Evil" ones. Though I am happy to assist any faction.
What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I tend to wander around looking for groups that are doing something interesting and then enjoy spicing what they do. If I have time set aside to play, I'll try and set up a traditional one-shot quest and drop a hook down for a player. I'd be looking for a party of 4-6 players, no more, really.
When planning an event, I like to work with the player who wishes the event to find out what kind of quest they enjoy and tailor what I plan to fit that.
I enjoy building and running quests for smaller parties who'll spend time in the quest interacting with each other and with the environment. I enjoy modifying the environment based on what the players do.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I work in IT building and maintaining servers for SME's. I also develop software for them. In my spare time, I am a volunteer instructor in a Sea Cadet unit teaching kids to sail and tie knots.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Maybe once? Yeah, I was seriously deprived.
Do you have a nickname?
Few now, if any.
What is the best way to approach you?
Forum PM's are good if they're short. My life is busy and so I tend to skim long PMs with huge amounts of detail. Bullet Points are good. Fluff is not. I'm happy to help in IRC.

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -3, Brasilia. What kind of plots do you like to run?
Anything that isn't drama related and focused in adventure, exploration and fun! What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
All, sadly I'm a man so I can't multi-task several factions. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I try to look for players doing something adventurous. People walking caves, exploring the wilds, ruins, swamps, mountains. People looking to do something other than simply going with the flow of what us DM's do.
Although, most of the time I spend programming new systems for Arabel. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I run a software company with other 2 associates. Been 2 years since we started in the game and have grown quite considerably. I love playing other RPG games, mostly for their plot ideas, but my passion is NWN.Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Yes. A lot. Have over 120 books in my D&D collection.Do you have a nickname?
No.What is the best way to approach you?
Send me a naughty picture through PM so I get interested. The more bacon in it, the better. LOL. Just send me a PM on the forums or catch me IG. -

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -5 (-4 summer time) (also known as US EST) - Eastern Canada. What kind of plots do you like to run?
Adventures and stories, short ones or long ones, as long as there is fun for all and a good mix of rp and good old dungeon crawl. Bit of spice too. Everyone love whacking zombies and rats. What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
The ones that involves others and make it fun for everyone? Adventurous factions. What do you like to do with your time in the game? I look for players that are out there adventuring. I'll probably get their attention with some sidequest or help them out with what they are looking for. If they work for it :D. I also like to bring some spice on quest too. Everyone love whacking zombies and rats. Wait I already said that.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
Got a full time job so not much time for other games. Though I do play Mass Effect. And some silly internet games from time to time.Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Not really no. I'd say all my DnD knowledge comes from nwn and coa.Do you have a nickname?

What timezone do you play in?
GMT -8What kind of plots do you like to run?
No real preference. I like to run things from overly silly, to extremely dark and depressing. By the end of the day, if I can make players laugh or cry from my plotz, then I've done my job! What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
No real preference these days. if you got a cool story going, I'll support it.What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I like listening in on conversations and giving spice to people who go out and adventure. I like situations where you can't just defeat your enemy. You may need to try and outsmart a monster rather than see if your numbers are higher than theirs. Roll stats, try and lift a boulder and hurl it at something. That kind of thing. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I practice martial arts, eat spicy things, and work. As for games, I'm a big fan of Dark Fantasies. Like Dragon Age, Dark Souls, Witcher, Berserk, etc. I also love fighting games, like Soul Calibur!Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Nope. PnP came after. My buddy in RL who was a player in this server introduced me to DnD. We then nerded it up so much that we always have discussions on Forgotten Realms lore when we're kicking each other's butts in Soul Calibur. I played my first PnP game about 5 years ago. I played a gnome illusionist! Was great!Do you have a nickname?
Some people call me Connie, Conny, Hernan, or Swing. What is the best way to approach you?
Forum PMs, IRC pms. If I don't answer, it's probably because I'm working. IRC is the best place to get my attention, though. -
What timezone do you play in?
GMT (London baby)What kind of plots do you like to run?
No huge preference. i like to find players who have got ideas, and help them see thier stories through, whether it be a story of discovery, revenge, or anything else. Comedy or tragedy, both have thier place. What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
One's with interesting characters that are really trying to weave stories, that are not self centred. But, I will admit, I like a bit of villainy, and i prefer the chaotic archetypes. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I jump around, and eavesdrop on various groups of players, then ask the ones who's conversations interest me to Send more details on the player plots forums later, then I try and set up mini quests for those who contacted us. I also like to take control of NPC's on quests or around the server, and breathe a bit of life into them, as well as make then act a little less dumb in combat. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
None of your business!I play some other games, I like old old old games. Really old ones.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
No. Too many dice. Also, none of my friends are into that kind of thing. I did used to play hero quest, and 'advanced' hero quest though.Do you have a nickname?
You'll have to guess it, which you wont, cos it's dumb. What is the best way to approach you?
Forum PMs, IRC pms, DM channel message in game if you need something in game related right now, or if your heading out on an adventure (include brief reason for trip in this case) -
@ArkhamWarlock:
What timezone do you play in?
GMT -5 (It's either that or -6, Central US)What kind of plots do you like to run?
Anything that involves moral challenges, characters questioning themselves, and storyline development. I am also a huge fan of horror-related events, large-scale events, and puzzles. What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
I don't have much personal preference in the matter, but I do tend to prefer factions with clear documentation and a good sense of humor. Angst is a huge turn off, so if I peruse your forum and see nothing but OOC whining, I will either try to disentangle the situation or ignore it altogether. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I sometimes drop spice on characters that are mid-quest, and I like to occasionaly troll "market-sitters" with talking objects. Anything to keep the server from getting stale, really. But my absolute favorite thing to do is to possess nearby NPCs and talk to players, making them development their character more. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I breathe fire. No, really. I have proof. I'm also a college student, so that sucks up a lot of my time. I also play League of Legends in my spare time (Malzahar mid, woop woop! Summoner name is NeolithicMachine) and take long walks with my beloved Benny.Other favorite games of mine…I would have to say RPGs such as KOTOR and the Elder Scrolls captivate my interest, though I sometimes branch out to games like Soul Calibur and Need for Speed. Very rarely.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
I did not, unfortunately. But I do now! I don't enjoy it as much, probably because I'm spoiled by NWN's instant-gratification dice system.
Do you have a nickname?
Arkham. Aardvark. Neo. That one guy who makes the CoA Rage comics. What is the best way to approach you?
95% of the time, I will answer forum messages sent to me. I can also be contacted via IRC, though that is less reliable because I will sometimes spontaneously log out mid-conversation due to IRL occurrences. I'm not ignoring you, I promise! I simply had to leave. -
HARROW: v. To pillage, or ransack. To level a field or region.
What timezone do you play in?GMT -7
What kind of plots do you like to run?
I'm a fan of plots that blur the line between evil and good. I like it when someone has a clear goal and the real moral dilemma is in the hands of onlookers.
What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
Lawful factions are the bee's knees. Justification and motivation is what makes a character tick, and these tend to have a good focus on those things.
What do you like to do with your time in the game?
Well- we'll see, won't we.
What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
My god. What DON'T I play.
Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
I've played D&D 3.5e since its release, and DM'd that and pathfinder for the better part of 5 years.
Do you have a nickname?
Yes.
What is the best way to approach you?
Any way you can imagine. I'm fairly open.
-
What timezone do you play in?
GMT (UK Time) EveningsWhat kind of plots do you like to run?
Ones involving players at both ends. I am not a fan of using NPCs more than I have to, and prefer a world where players are able to utilize NPCs themselves if they want to.
Also, I am a big, big fan of tragedies. I've had far too many on CoA myself as a player, and now I'm going to share my pain with all of you. Don't worry. You'll look back on those tears with fond memories later. Hush, hush…What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
Factions that are open to welcoming outsiders into their schemes (for good or bad) and don't let TEH WIN get in the way of telling a good story. Factions (or characters) that have clearly defined goals are a big plus too. Necromancer who wants to make a bone golem is nothing special. Necromancer who wants to bury Arabel under undead and starts by building a bone golem to terrorize the sewers is awesome. Give me an endgame that is not open-ended, and I know precisely what you're aiming for without the silly business of treating stepping stones to power as ultimate goals. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
If I'm not running a specific event, I tend to go find some quests to spice up.What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I like good food, and I've nothing against putting in the time and effort required to cook it.
I don't really play any game with the level of interest I do CoA. I used to pop into Mechwarrior Online now and then, while the backlog of games I have nostalgic tendencies for goes beyond count now.Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
Nope. I was introduced to FR and DnD through Baldur's Gate 2. When Neverwinter Nights came out, it was a very exciting time for me. Unfortunately the single player campaign turned out to be a huge let-down. CoA became the first online gaming experience I had - so maybe it's nostalgia speaking again, but I just can't seem to get away. It's now been over ten years since I first logged into Arabel.Do you have a nickname?
Lizzy, by the gender-obliviousWhat is the best way to approach you?
PMs or IRC. And for the love of all that is good, KEEP IT BRIEF!
I went with 5-6 hours of sleep a day throughout my first week as a DM. There's really not enough hours in the day. It makes me feel bad not to give your message the attention it deserves, so do both of us a favour and find a way to keep to the point of the matter! -
What timezone do you play in?
I'm all over the place as far as when I play, but I live on the East coast US.What kind of plots do you like to run?
Adventure, and big server spanning plots that involve epic battles. I have no problem helping you do what you want to do in any sort of way though, as long as it makes sense. But if its my plot I'm running instead of a pc driven plot, you are going to need your sword. What kind of Factions do you like to be involved with?
I love factions, and will continue to do my best to make sure that they have purpose. So, basically whichever faction I think needs the most help. What do you like to do with your time in the game?
I'm usually either setting up an event or running an event ig. Again, I am willing to do anything that has a chance of being interesting, as long as I am free. A good time to grab me for something you want to do is when I am chatty on irc, since that means I'm around and not doing anything else. Don't take "no" personally though, sometimes i just feel like being chatty and not playing. What do you do outside of CoA? Do you play any other games?
I have a PS4, I buy games for it every now and again. I'm not really a "gamer" by today's standards though. I used to play Magic the gathering on a somewhat competitive level, but that is something that tends to come and go in waves in my life.Did you play PnP before you came to online gaming?
No. Most of the fantasy influence I have comes from books like the dragonlance series, the wheel of time, and the LoTR movies. I did play baldur's gate, but had no idea what anything was setting wise when I did, so I have been planning to revisit eventually so I can say "oh I get it now." NwN was recommended to me by a gamer who I mentioned Baldur's gate to, and I eventually found CoA. I'm still learning new things about the FR setting every day.Do you have a nickname?
CF seems to have stuckWhat is the best way to approach you?
Depends on what you need. If you need me to look over an app, or a concept idea, or something that requires extended reading send me a Forum PM. Otherwise, IRC is probably the best.
