A Dark Rite
-
A sending was made about a dark rite in the tunnels under Eveingstar, and myself and a small group of young adventures(a bardess called Tess, an a ranger called Junnen and a elven druidess called Eward) investigated. Within the tunnels I found desecrated Lathanderite relics of chalices and a minor sword, along with a murdered man and this prophecy:
Of note the only person I've heard talking of prophecy of darkness coming over Eveningstar is Izereth Cain of the Precepts. After recovering the artefacts and body and telling the adventures to keep quiet about the murder, I made inquires and talked to her in the company of Sir Pierre and Treth.
I asked Izereth (without telling her details) who she had told the prophecy of darkness too and she informed me that she had told some Ravens, Ursula of the Wildwalkers and some random young adventurer in red armour. I then informed her that a murder report was likely to submitted in a few days and all three of them to keep the matter quiet.
My personal suspicion is Izereth, or someone who has heard her prophecy, is trying to spook or play us in someway. So I’m limiting who knows details, and going to see if someone slips up and mention details of the rite that only the killer would know. Roland keep a eye in the files of the 12 for people talking about the sword or such.
I have taken the body into the temple to aid in investigation of who it was and how they died, and once that’s done the poor soul can be given last rites.
The sword and broken chalices seem good subjects for a divination rite to try and discover the murdered last moments, through obviously we need to find the right person and materials, and someone we can trust or at least someone without an agenda to do it.
The bardess in my group Tass, took detailed sketches of the scene and I’ve asked her to submit the details to aid with the investigation.

An update.
Seems this prophecy of darkness is semi common knowledge in many circles... which means our suspect list is quite long and reasonable doubt on Izereth’s involment is proper.
Any clues on the dead identity and cause of death?

Another sending, another body.
"The time draws nigh. Their false light has been seen. They speak of hope, the words crumble to ash in their mouths. Soon, darkness will fall on them, it has been seen. The priest who wandered the south horn has already fallen. It has been prepared."
I went to investigate and found a bloody mess of a man alongside some letters and items fitting of a Lathaderite priest, which I have placed in storage, but will list here.
Three holy chalices of Lathander
A holy symbol of Lathander
A suit of golden chainmail designed for a priest
A large shield to aid in turning the undead
A mundane mace
A cloak only usable by those who stand with justiceI took the the remains and belongings away due to the south horns undeath taint.
I then summoned Tass and any who wished to aid in criminal investigation. She arrived with the human swordsman Reg and the dwarven druid Dlug came along a few minutes latter as well. We examines the site and found a magical circle had turned up, but could do little to disrupt it and lightning bolts dropped down when we tried to interfere with it We were also attacked by undead purple dragons when we tried to leave.
Please find attached copies of the paperwork:
My first questions is does anyone remember a young Lathaderite (but none Astar) priest passing through town in golden armour heading towards the south horn on the day of the murder?
Also has a Julia approached anyone asking about her husband? I made a sending asking for such a person to approach us, but from the tone of the letter they be a modest distance away and be delayed in approaching us.
This Black Star Rising seems a term to keep a ear out for, as does this witch of prophecy.
The journal talks of a necromancer in the South Horns, so I will start patrols.

The body is in quite a state, but I appricate if we can get a rough guess on time of death and if the butchery to the corpse was done as part of there murder, or done to the corpse sometime after death.

The amount of circumstance evidence that Izereth Cain is the one doing these dark rites is building up. While we haven’t caught her hand in the cookie jar yet, whoever is doing this seems to be a match for her abilities and has access to limited resources she has access too. She most certainly has motive to try and spread terror in our lands as well.
Dominic is a low-ranking member of the Crown Guard who see’s getting charges on the Trueblood and make his name by arresting her over this. The letter he’s after is the demands Izereth tried to extort from the House of Morning when she arrested me.
It’s fairly obvious the Precepts are unwilling to do real diplomacy with us, and creating a steady alliance with the Crown Guard would help us get back in the Kings good books... plus Izereth does rather look like the one who trying to spread terror and death in our lands.
Can I have the letter of her demands my Bishop?

She was basically saying she wanted to marry Myrkyr and I told her off.
You can if you want though, tell the Awakened to retrieve the letter for you.
Sincerely,

So we’ve had a third ritual.
A trail of onyx dust was left on the road to Eveningstar. One end led to the smuggling tunnels and a bunch of goblin bodies readied for animation, and another to snakeman body ready for animation in the tunnels under Eveningstar. It's worth noting at the site that a bandit was by the body... but he showed no magic abilities that the journal would suggest. There was also a bag nearby with tools of necromancy and one of the old Lower Houses magic mushrooms of premonition.
After a little digging it seems the mushrooms come from a halfling druid in the Helmlands who is now only allowed to sell to Precepts, House Mossmare and the druids…. Since the Lower House is now destroyed and the mushrooms are contraband, it means our bags owner was almost certainly from one of the three groups.
I think the blabbering’s of this magical chain reaction and “Dendar” are merely our little shadow butcher trying to create fear and terror. But there tools once again point towards Izereth Cain or another member of the Precept being our suspect, since it seems unlikely a druid would touch necromancy and Mossmare lacks a motive.

@hellgate-kreep said in Letter to Tass:
sent by courier, the script is refined and carefully composed
Tass,
Withdraw your ignorant statements regarding my family. Apologise.
Izereth is clearly innocent of these heinous acts. She is a gentle hearted soul, something that has been taken advantage of by fanatics more than once now. She permitted the Exile It's life, when others who hunted traitors would have ended it. My Sister is a Hero of Arabel and the Crown. Your Cur was a Betrayer of Arabel and the Crown.
How was she repayed for such charity? With lies, false accusations and obnoxious summons to attend the wretch whenever he wished to whine at her. It repeatedly violated It's exile, having been sighted outside of Eveningstar on Crown lands more than once. Each time, It avoided answering any questions and fled like a coward.
The Cur Exile of Eveningstar attacked my Sister, a spiteful and foolish act of petulance. It had harboured ill will for my Family since It's arrival, going so far as attempting to side with the traitors of the Lower House to overthrow the Crown and those who stood with them.
These are not the actions of an innocent man.
My Sister warned both Belon and the Exile of this coming darkness. Both were too arrogant to pay heed. The Exile only sought to use her benevolent warning as a means to attack her. As I understand it, the evidence of her involvement is nonexistent.
Whilst all these events were unfolding last evening, I hunted down and rescued my Sister, injured and disorientated from your Stray's attack. A less gifted member of our family might not have survived the assault.
If a single member of the Precept is harmed as a result of these ignorant and baseless declarations, there will be grave consequences. For the person who does the harm and all those who incite it.
This is not a threat, it is a simple statement of fact.
Do have a marvelous day.

Izereth holds a pardon, from her time assisting the King against the Historic Rebellion. However, Dominic of the Crown Guards have some minor charges for her, such as evasion of law enforcement after she lied how she stole Tristan's body to Councilor Ursula, and Councilor Jenny. Lying to the council is a minor offense.
Instead of giving her a fine, he wishes to send Izereth to Eveningstar for re-educational purposes. Which would be she would have to hand herself over to the Bishop, begging for mercy and redemption. It is highly likely she would refuse, and seek to use her pardon to avoid this. Meaning she cannot use her pardon for the trial over the murder of Tristan, and defilement she performed against our lands.

No trial yet, time will tell.
