Prelude: The Priors of Man
-
The Priors of Man are a new religious organization, who seek to spread the worship of what they call the "Mortal Soul", or the collective consciousness of man. The idea of a collective consciousness is well known among the elves, having what they call the Dreaming, but has never been observed among mankind.
They decry the worship of the Gods, seeing them as callous and unworthy to be followed after the silence; While the pre-effects of the silence, including the thinning of the planar veil, have been felt for months, the Gods return to their infighting while completely ignoring their mortal worshipers. In the scant days the Gods have stopped responding to their clerics, the death toll has mounted to catastrophic proportions all over Faerun. The Priors see only one way to end the Godswar; Starve the Gods of the worship and the souls that grant them their power, and instead focus on uplifting humanity.
While generally ignored or derided as heretics, they have nonetheless found a foothold in Cormyr and elsewhere; Faith in the Gods has dropped sharply, and many live in abject fear of dying without being reaped, thus being trapped in the Fugue until Kelemvor returns; But that may be days, or centuries, for Gods do not view time as mortals do. Many people, frightened and uncertain, see any alternative as acceptable. Adding to their faith, the Priors seem capable of casting divine spells, and promise an alternative to the Fugue and the Wall of the faithless and the false, instead living forever as part of the collective consciousness of humanity even after their bodies die.
Humans are preferred, but other races may be tolerated by becoming "honorary humans" and working for the benefit of man.
Looking for 3-4 players to start as Priors. No application needed, main characters ONLY. Further details will be communicated before the prelude. Clerics will receive spells as normal, I will supply the alignment restrictions and the domains before the prelude.
