Rangers
-
Hello, I have a question about rangers on the server but I don't really know where to ask so I hope this is as good a place as any.
I am actually just wondering if it is worthwhile to multiclass a ranger with 4 levels of fighter. That would probably result in playing with heavy armor and towershield. So the penalties for doing so, as far as I can say, is:
I miss out on Dual Wielding, Spells, tumble and all the pureclass bonuses for Fighters and Rangers that are exclusive on the server.
Is there anything else that wouldn't work? What about Wands, Animal Companion and Tracking? Would those be the same if I continue to level up as Ranger after 4 levels of Fighter?
Also, I am wondering if this is up to date (In witch case maybe it should be written under the Rangers/Druids topic in Resources?) and if it is still effective for multiclassed rangers:
Animal Companions
The charisma of your character will make your animal companion stronger/weaker as follows:6 Charsima: -2 Con, -2 Dex, -2 Str, -2 Wis
7 Charsima: -2 Dex, -2 Str, -2 Wis
8 Charsima: -2 Str, -2 Wis
9 Charsima: -2 Wis
10 Charisma: No change
11 Charisma: +2 Wis
12 Charisma: +2 Wis, +2 Dex
13 Charisma: +2 Wis, +2 Dex, +2 Str
14 Charisma: +2 Wis, +2 Dex, +2 Str, +2 Con
Every level over 14: An additional +1 Str/Dex/Con/WisThis only counts for BASE stats, not from buffs.

you only get animal companion at level 3 so your companions power is reduced but you can still get one.
you will get a spell at level 4 ranger if you have enough wisdom, and progression from there if you end up with more levels.
you get wand use.
you cant dual wield in plate without the standard feats rather than the ranger bonus one.
tracking works but it is based off ranger skills not fighter ones, so you will be less good - but still capable i find.
i am not sure about the charisma effects, if it applies to all companions or just druid ones, sorry.

IMHO its typically not worth mixing the two with a ranger base, mostly because the pure class bonus thing. Rangers can take heavy armor as a feat, which combined with FE and the pure class bonus can make a pretty brutal warrior. Fighters sometimes get some mileage out a ranger level for the access to divine wands and skills. If your more interested in duel wielding, rogue/ranger and rogue/fighter both shine far more brightly.

The Animal Companion charisma bonuses work for both rangers and druids.

you can find more info on how ranger work on CoA here also!: viewtopic.php?t=152772

I think tracking gets a great boost after ranger level 6, but with some points in the relevant skills it isn't useless on level 1.
Animal companions though suffer greatly from multiclassing. Power level of the beasts you can tame increases with a steep slope. -
Alright. Thanks for all the answers. I decided to go full on Ranger instead. It's simpler that way, and it sounds fun! Thanks for all the advice.

just a note that rangers have been updated, check the link above.
basically, they get more skill points, they don't get their weapon style until third level, but then it is the base feats so you can take other feats with your general feats when you level based on these, etc.zool probably could say more… .
