Respawning PC's
-
I was in the hardcore camp for a long time, and still think that in most cases it's the correct way to go.
But the only time I came back to life from a PC killing (that didn't involve my body being recovered and raised by allies) was with Crey, a few days after creation when the druids killed him. A DM deemed that it was a pretty petty and fast killing of the PC, and he ended up being one of my two most successful characters to date.
And another example is Aghanim Foxsilver at the start of v5. Fox was Tex's partner and was getting a pretty good following of PCs early, and had won some good fights. But a failed fight that resulted in him dying, I left him dead. The killers even gave my body to my allies, but I felt it was very OOC courtesy instead of IC sense, so I didn't let them raise me. While I still believe I made the right call, and that killing a person just to let them come back to life is immersion breaking, I do regret not taking advantage of it. He was a PC who I thought was going places quick. Instead I stayed dead and haven't had a character involved with anything in v5 since it began and have been struggling to get into plots.
So I say this. Make the call for yourself, because every situation is different. But I think its courteous to remain dead and very rude to just come back to life without other people raising you as a general rule. Exceptions can exist, but I don't see them happen often. If you've had a story with someone and you end up dead, you have the power to be immersion breaking or courteous. I don't consider it a discourtesy to get killed on a whim IG. It means my decisions have consequences.

What part of "you can respawn" did you not get?
Seriously...I don't know what the situation you reference was--but here's the rule:
That's the policy. What you're talking about makes no sense. No DM can say to you "you can't respawn" because that's not the rule here.
Well then you have a lot of confusion going on with the DM team.
To sum things up:
Vicho(Falonthas) was on trial. Coster(Golw) and Deryk(King-Dobby) killed him. They were both killed. I took the body and stopped him from being raised and refused to give it up to the council so I was killed. The DM in charge of the event told everyone there that no one was allowed to respawn and they needed to be raised. 3 very active PCs were killed and retired as a result of this event and it is a slap in the face to each and every one of us. Speaking for myself I would have never committed IG suicide and I doubt Dobby or Golw would have either if they had known that this would happen.since this entire thread is about me bringing Vicho back, Ill give you why. Over the month since the whole fiasco, that I was left out of the whole loop if you wanted the permadeath thing, I played other characters, some did good some died in hours. I was content as slowly I saw team good widdling down the team evil bastion. One died from this group, one died from that group, my new group was wiped out in 36 hours so I was thinking up a new char testing new kits, and low and behold, all the team evil that died had come back to life and was raising havoc once again.
Now I had been told that I could spawn Vicho but I would not be raised. The trial never happened, my gear was lost including some special pieces made for Vicho. And though I could respawn with permission, I let it lie. Now I see that the chars killed over the time period all the sudden one day when the server is 16 strong and 12 are evil including the ones dead and buried, I will admit I got irked a bit.
The announcememt came for the wedding and the need for special pit trials. So I spawned Vicho. I played it that to him only an hour had passed though it was a month or so real time, and went about contacting allies who filled in the gaps. Now those three evil guys that were executed, you knew the consequences going in, you were in the loop with dm notice, when you jumped a trial in the citadel that was a farce to begin with and made your attacks.
My decision is well hey if team evil can come back after weeks, Vicho can come back after a month. As I had clearance from the four day mark as Vicho wasn't executed he was pvpd I see whats good for the goose is good for the Gander. If you don't like Team Good coming back to life maybe you should let team evil remain buried as well.
My reasoning behind my decision.

This is getting personal apparently.
But Falonthas, it isn't all about you. Other players who were PK'ed have come back, as you noted yourself in your very ad hominem piece that crossed the line into an obviously frustrated rant.
I'm going to lock this before it gets ugly.
