An end to the soap opera

I don't think EfU (the DMs / server itself) do anything really different conflict wise, it's all down to the players at the end of the day.
If a player wants to take over the city they can do (Kreswell, for example) - people just need to want to do it and then make it happen, keep in contact with the DMs and bring the awesome. Sure the DMs need to let it happen, and I'm sure they would if the right awesome came along.
The real difference with CoA and EfU is the latter has recently reinvented itself for the 4th (5th?) time - some big shake up like that would certainly generate a lot of interest. It was planned for V5 and then never materialised, sadly.

@Darlene:
When you log in and there are 3 other people other than yourself. Making conflict with one individual because "it is what my character would do" might not gain the results you had hoped for, and in some cases may make the person being targeted feel like they are being bullied. That is not good for the server and at least one of the players involved
There is not the population to support this type of conflict on a protracted basis (game spy being the culprit here)
There is plenty of room on CoA for people of different kinds of play styles, although the hope is that they can mingle together and have fun.
i am not really feeling this now
As someone in the situation of being "conflicted with", I have to say I don't feel bullied. And those who decide to be close to my character, with perhaps one exception who is new to the server, should know full well OCC what they are getting themselves into.
If you don't want to be called "friend of the heretic" don't be friends with the heretic. or if you didnt know, then renounce them.
Its all Pure IC.of course, that can suck OOC, if you play for 4 hours and typically for the first hour theres a dozen people and the last 3 hours of it…there are 3 people who play - one of whom is "bad".
Do you destroy your chance at doing anything quest/gold wise for the 3/4 of your time by pandering to the wishs of the establishment you see duroing that first hour ?
The small player count really really does make it difficult. -
with summer starting to wane, i have noticed numbers are now starting to bounce back a little bit, the times i would normally be on i am seeing anywhere from 8 to 20 where as a week ago it would hover around 3 to 8
the comparisons to EFU are not really fair as they are a different server, and when they institute a new version, they do not carry out a wipe, instead they tell players, you can bring in a old character, if you managed to survive the end event and if you can survive the trip to the new area. Which is fraught with dangers, and no map or direction as to how to arrive at the new area. Their server has its charms, and it is different enough that people can play on both and have fun and a different experience (i have been playing more there as of late and find it is quite different than arabel)
the main difference to CoA that EfU has, is the main DM has a specific vision, and he has stuck with it and has been in place since the start of the server, from my understanding they have a single vision, shared by other dms, this is how i understand it based on my observations and conversations over there. will something like that work in arabel? hard to say, it may have been like that in the past, but i am not privy to the closed door meetings of the dms here (or there for that matter)

What put me off from here was the hostile attitude so common among players (and unfortunately even some DMs). People would get too personal when it came to IC consequences for IC actions. Made me feel unwelcome after years of on and off "abuse" from different sides. An unhealthy perspective to a storytelling game made things so complicated that no matter you did someone was always upset with how you decided to play the game.
I feel saddened to see the server like this, but it's the natural response for such an old game with fans that have come to grow up. I've made some great friends here and have had many memorable moments, so I've only to thank for being allowed to play here.

This is true, the attitude towards IC consequences is too toxic way too often. Many players have a very hard time seperating ic from ooc.

I find it easier to "cope" as it were by treating my characters like a book. If it ends well, then great; if it doesn't, and leaves a sour taste in my mouth, I chuck it into the bin and pick a new one to read. RPers are a creative lot, and there is no shortage of concepts.
