DM Announcement RE: Favortism Et Al.
-
i am sad to see it come to this, but it was inevitable, there was the language issue, plus a unbridled passion (and perhaps some angst as well)
it is a terrible shame nothing could be worked out, but after reading many of his posts, it seemed his passion was taking control (we need people who are passionate about the server, a controlled passion) and from what i could gather he may have missed or not fully understood the points many of us and the DMs were trying to get across to him to help him.from what i could see most of the posts were trying to help him, a few got a bit flamey
with a passion like that i am sure if he thinks it through and adjusts we can and may see him back in time, he is a decent player from what i could see (but he never really fully grasped why i try to avoid the elfhold and the hullack with rav, and i tried to tell him as much in game and via tells)
i will miss him of course, and i really hope he makes the needed adjustments to return
he also broke one of my unspoken rules, one i tried to get across, but may have failed in properly communicating it, never argue with the DMs, you can talk to them but keep it private and polite, it is a rule i instituted some time ago when i was following a very similar path that could have very likely gotten me banned had i chosen to continue on that erroneous and egregious line of thought

@Darlene:

I break this rule religiously, and have not gotten banned. I bitched about the new AI relentlessly to the point that certain dms stopped being friendly with me, I have openly complained about setting decisions in the past, and everytime I feel like a certain nameless player gets benefits unfitting for a cheating sack of nothing I make sure my opinion is heard (even though this is always in private).
There is one key difference between how I do things, and how they did things. At the end of the day, when the argument is over, I move on. I don't hold grudges, I don't create conspiracy theories. I just say my piece and sometimes things change, sometimes they don't. The reason I am cool with either outcome at the end of the day is, the server is not just here for me. Its not just here for anyone. There needs to be a give and take, and a trust that even when things don't go your way ig its not personal, its just a game. The fact that they couldn't see that is why they are banned, and if they ever learn the folly of their thoughts they can return. Moloch has made that clear.

I remember being very critical of the new AI and the crafting system, systematically laying out what I believed to be wrong with it. At first, it was greeted with hostility, but I think the DMs realized I was not just hatin' it, I was also recommending changes and pointing out valid flaws and giving alternatives. I think there is a difference. But I never, ever, insult someone though I do engage in hawseplay (Ponies)

Yes but this has nothing to do with claiming DMs have/make favoritisms.
Expressing opinion on the settings, even when are hot opinions, is not comparable with some posts we have seen in this thread (and which lead to ban). -
They didn't get banned because they thought favoritism exists. Theres a huge difference between "this guy gets all the dm love and I get none" and "The dms are evil overlords that are out to ruin our fun so they should be avoided at all costs." I mean, of course favoritism exists on some level, the dms are human beings ranging down from mature adults to idiot twenty year olds that still think the world revolves around them. To think that they aren't going to have players they prefer playing with over others is only fooling yourself. There are dms that do a good job of trying to police things to make it as fair as possible, but people are people, dm or not.
The thing is, in the grand scheme of things none of it matters. This is a game we play to have fun, not a real life situation where we are all a bunch of Che Guverra's striving for social equality. If you aren't having fun or you think that the dms are out to get you, why would you continue to play? Thats a question I tried to pose to the two ban hammered about an hour before it happened earlier in this thread, because in reality I would have rather they just walked away from their frustrations instead of getting banned. That way when they calm down, mature, take their meds, or whatever was needed they could come back and continue their power gamey yet fun to quest with ways. I mean, if Jaded can grow up, anyone can :)
The problem was, they wouldn't let it go.

Good NLP there.

My 5 cents to whole topic :
I have had different views with DM's few times BUT only when I was a noob and totally new to NWN (not RP though) I have had any real difficulties with them. Few times I have had some problems with my app going through because of difference of opinions (Once "This is a Powerbuild" when I was apping for least mechanically powerful of my characters ever, once "Be a wizard, not a cleric" and "Too many lycanthropes around, won't give it"), but two of the three went through as was and the last one with other benefits being approved. All in all, our DMs are fair bunch of people who treat you with respect if you don't go blazing at them and whining. I must also tip my hat to them for allowing me to play here because I have stopped few application characters without a telling them and a few more with warning that my health has prevented my from playing. My only real problem is that I have few times been promised something by a DM, be it event, NPC support or whatever and the DM has left the server for long time, not giving me any warning. Or the DM just did not show up (Sorry Syntax, could not resist, my old friend) This has happened with players also and even I have done it few times. But hey, we are only human and as I stated in the previous part of this post, I have done something similar…
A lot of love to our DM crew. A Job well done. We all have our favourite characters to play with, and you have the right to that too.
