Gamespy officially forgetting about NWN now?
-
Since there are no more internet server listings in gamespy, seems it might be more difficult to get new players (you have to use direct connect or history/favorites to get to a server)
It appears GLU Mobile who purchased Gamespy in august of this year has shut down all servers related to legacy game titles, because it would be cost to much to keep them running
-
Yep pretty much; it will definitely limit the amount of new players coming in which is why I am reccomending we reach out to those who have stopped by here already considering that we have 30000 registered forum accounts.
-
Someone definitely needs to put together a list of PWs and maintain it, and this should appear at the main page of the NWN wiki, and on the article about Neverwinter Nights on wikipedia.
This list should consist of three sentence introductions with links to preferably uniform pages with details. -
… we have 30000 registered forum accounts.
How many of those are secret or new forum accounts of other players? Quite a lot. And its not like many of the old players are returning to this forum to check up on things, so we can't really reach them. And do you want to PM 20.000 dead accounts in order to receive no replies?
-
They all have registered emails. There should be a function I can utilize to do a mass-emailer to all members.
It's an idea we've considered, and it doesn't take but a few minutes out of my day to do so.

Perhaps a ConstantContact list, for all the varioius niceties it offers, including the big ones, self-adding/self-removal via links that could be on various PW sites.

Well, I got an e-mail today about V5 and such, so I suppose EoF got it working!
Someone else can post a "brace yourselves" meme, I'm too lazy.
-
Mass email was sent; though it bugged out so I don't know how many actually fired off.
-
Might be worth keeping tabs on this (an initiative underway to make a community-run alternate master server replacement):

got the email :) Thanks EoF for doing this. Is there any chance you could send another in the near future just to catch those who didn't get it the first time?
-
I got the message too, been ages since I dusted off NWN, got to be at least 6-7 years. I played the bard, Coran Ari (V2).
Anybody know if Krystia Kross/Natassia Bresk is still around? I have missed her roleplay, lo these long years.

viewtopic.php?t=61687&hilit=Krystia Unfortunately she is no longer with us....

There was an error in sending the email and only so many accounts were able to receive it.
I can fire it off again, but it'll duplicate, unfortunately.
-
For those that didn't receive it (and I will try sending it out again) this was the message:
Greetings and Salutations!
You are receiving this email because you are registered on our forums at
forum.cityofarabel.com! This means that you are a member of our community,
and whether you're active or not, still a member of our family! There have
been a lot of great changes happening on CoA, and a bigger one still on its
way in the form of Version 5!We would like to cordially invite our former players out to see the
server's new direction and to experience a new player base! Please, poke
your head around the forums or IRC and say hello! We'd love to see you! And
fire up that copy of NWN and come play – for old times sake! And if you're one of our current players, then tell your friends about this
cool game, and have them join you on your next concept!Thank you very much for your time, and we'll see you in game!
Sincerely,
The DM Team at City of Arabel

A way to find servers
-
I'll make a post on reddit, that'll attract some folk for sure.

@Selene:
A way to find servers
I don't have the tiniest idea how it works. I've tried not to get discouraged faster then the average.
-
simply click servers and scroll through about 131 pages of servers with IP adress.

Yeah, sounds convenient. Oh…wait.
I've used NWC waaaaay in the past for what it's great for, which is scheduling games, but it's useful as a Turnip-Stick is for browsing servers.
