Nasa Success: Curiosity defies all odds and lands!

Actually saw this in the local paper as front page news. The actual content itself, however occupied a slot no bigger than this post and ultimately didn't continue on to an insert page. I bought the paper specifically for that but upon learning I'd been ripped off, I used the paper to clean the windows. >.> Seems humanity's forward progress takes a back seat to sports scores and gossip columns once more. Ah well. At least I can see though my windows agian.

Not as if Olympics weren't important…

I'd love to hear about humanity's scientific advances but American news is so bent on fear. Yeah, we landed a super cool rover on mars but, you know? SOMEONE SHOT SIX PEOPLE
-
Don't forget the new Rover has a laser death ray for blasting rocks and those pesky martian hippies. That Rover is packing some serious HEAT!

I suppose they didn't want great attention until they manage to reach the surface.
Mars mission statistics are below 50%, from what I hear in the news. In fact they didn't say whose missions were counted, and I'm terribly undereducated in the subject.Few things that are really worthwhile are easy to do. The thing I found amazing to consider is that by the time NASA received the signal that entry vehicle had entered the Mars atmosphere, the rover could have been driving round the surface or smashed to smitherines. An incredible piece of sicence, engineering and hope and luck!
