Freeing Tymoras faith
-
Fellows,
As a devoted follower, I take to heart that my faith is in the clutches of a man who at times shows a great lack of moral fiber. Therefore, I intend to see that it is freed, and I have found just the right weapon to do it. The Transcendence. They seem to be itching for a bone to bite at, and a fight big enough to put them on the map. And while I do not trust them longer than I can throw them, perhaps they can be a tool to be used to ease the firm grip of Misrim just a little bit.Esvele
@O-louth said in Letter to the Transendence:
To the good folk of the Transcendence,
This letter was harder to write than I had anticipated, as I simply had no idea what to call you. Are you an order, is it, brothers, associates? Followers? No matter, I am rambling!
My… good gentlemen! You have proven yourselves quite capable and brave, in your pursuit of the orthodox doctrines of the faiths, as shown by your desire to purge the faith of the Black Chalice! But while a single heretic here or there may be well and good, I am hoping, praying, that you are brave enough to a true challenge.
I pen this missive, not as an act of rebellion against our beloved monarchy. But with outmost concern, that the leader of my faith, may have lost her way, and is practicing a version of Tymora’s faith, that is flawed and misleading.
She is teaching that the current monarchs are divinely chosen by Tymora herself. But from what I have been able to uncover, the faith of Tymora had very little to do with them. She does so, after having been appointed by King Misrim, rather than being elected by her peers as is customary.
Some time ago, a rebellion took place within the city. Since the days of Gondegal, we have not seen one as close to succeeding as this one, and it carried with it a heavy toll. At the end of the fighting, the Church of Tymora chose sides, and sided with the rebels, just as they had when Gondegal and his companions took the city. Perhaps it is the very nature of Tymora’s followers, that they value freedom to highly, that those who go against the odds to tilt the pillars of power, are perceived as pursuers of good fortune.
When King Misrim struck down the rebellion, the High Priestess of Tymora perished, along with most of her dedicated followers. In the aftermath, instead of choosing their own Head of the church, King Misrim broke protocol and instated one of his old Ghosts, Dalorna Arris. She is now leading the biggest congregation in the entire region, stating that King Misrim and Queen Goldfeather are chosen by Tymora herself to lead her lands.
I am a scholar, and from what I know of the religious practices, it is the gods themselves, and not their mortal followers, who decide who their Chosen are. The blade that chose Misrim was blessed by Lathander, not Tymora, and was an ancient elven relic. The only thing the faith of Tymora had to do with the current monarchs, is that the former High Priestess wed them.
My dear good folk of The Transcendence. I beg of you, and pray to Tymora, that you will help put a worried heart to rest, by investigating these accusations, and either confirming that the current teachings of the High Priestess are in tune with the true teachings of the Faith, or if not, help me ensure that the true practices and teachings of Tymora are returned to her most holy temple.May fortune favor the bold,

King's name's Matrim.
Misrim's the jerk Duke. But sure hope you get them busy with getting the Lady of Luck's faith restored! I rather like that one. She's an honorary Halfling Goddess.

Actions unfortunately have consequences,
Ariana chose the wrong side hoping to gamble on a successful revolt to force the encroaching monarchs to back off on cementing their control over the city and becoming more than figureheads of the nation. She wanted a chaotic city, a chaotic country, where one can grasp opportunities and rise to power or fall from grace in equal measure.
She lost.
You may try and replace the current High Priestess of Tymora, but right now, it would mean pushing against an increasingly powerful monarch whose hands have gripped firmly on the handles of power and build their base further by the day- where we are disparate and lacking unity, torn in a dozen directions on individual crusades against evil and this war on Tilverton...
It is a tall order, but, it is the stuff of heroic legends if you succeed.

@SpiffyMeister
Perhaps there is a middleground between replacing her, and reminding her of the faith she represents. Through bold initiatives and daring feats, we shall win her over, and remind her that Tymora is more than her service to Matrim.Or we replace her. Time will tell.
