Beholder Threat: Thralls & Clones
-
It has come to my attention that the threat the Beholders offer is greater than just the obvious beams they hurl, but also the threat of thralls and clones.
I recently aided Berner of the Greywatch in a rescue attempt to recover the bodies of Mikul Vect and Elio of Eveingstar who had been struck down by beholders in the Forest of eyes. The Trio was attempting to track a Owlbear for some matter and encountered several of the creatures.
Berner escaped and I was brought in, when we arrived the bodies had been taken deeper into the a portal. Entering we found it led into a chamber of the Mines below the Forest of Eyes, and after a thorough search of the cavern.
We eventually came upon "Mikul" & "Elio", at the time I had assumed them thralls as their mannerisms and speech was..Alien, like an ant pretending to be a man by reading from a script. We attempted to lure them into the Menagerie to subdue and contain them, but they entered the Historic. In which case I summoned the Blood Hounds to assist myself and Berner in dealing with them.
It is at this point that we did battle with "Mikul" and "Elio". True Mikul eventually wandered from the Faceless after the sound of fireballs and steel roused the area and with our combined efforts we brought down both clones, though unfortunately we were not able to subdue them. It was after this battle be found Mikul had a Beholder stalk surgically attached to the base of his neck.
We've since collected the stalk and examined Mikul, the bodies of the two clones are being dissected at the Precept Sanctum and Mikul is being quarantined in the Greywatch barracks until we are certain he is not being controlled. All other members of the party involved will need to be examined and quarantined. That includes Elios of Eveningstar and Atenfield a woman of tanned skin, dark hair and dark eyes.
It is my hope that the creatures are only able to copy the arcane abilities of those they clone, and not the divine offered by druids and clerics but it would be folly to make assumptions at this point.

I would also like to capture one of these clones alive, to be placed in the menagerie cells for further research. The Precept Arcanum ha a hard rule on not detaining sentient creatures within our cells, but I do not believe these clones to be sentient so much as some highly advanced form of golem.
