Over the last few days I've only been on Facebook, Darkmyst, and the forums on my windows partition. As I was in the IRC via darkmyst and doing nothing else, I got infected with a Rogue Anti-virus program that took over my system. I found it in my system files and got rid of it but now I'm dealing with random pop-ups on the Forums when I first log in. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm probably going to have to do a full system sweep tonight and it kinda upsets me because I used to remove viruses etc for a living but I've /NEVER/ gotten a virus myself.

Worth the admins having a check, but do remember some viruses work on a Dormant Timer.

Meaning they could sit on your system for weeks doing nothing then activate on a specific date or after a certain duration.

I find it highly unlikely you'd get the virus from IRC or the forums.

Unless you've been accepting file transfers on IRC, I have sincere doubts that it's coming from there.

Additionally, in the history of this forum I've never even caught a whiff of a problem.

More than likely your virus is from elsewhere. I'd put it at basically 100% probability.

still tracking down where it came from, just figured Id ask if anyone else had any problems just in case, would have narrowed my search. Might have got it from a facebook link too

I'm 100% its from a facebook link you shouldn't have been clicking on.

Stop checking out those Miley Cyrus links. The ones with the fakeyoutube video pics.

Well when I started removing some of the virus manually it got angry at me and started deleting my vital windows files. I really don't want to reinstall and have to reinstall all my windows programs one by one so I'll be out for a few days while I fix the windows files and hunt down the virus from my mac partition

                    Vicious little bugger.

                    Future tip.

when you next do a format/re-install, make an image of the drive, then just re-image it when you need to reformat or whatever. I normally install the 'always must have' programs before making the disc image too.

Or failing that make a virtual partition which can have the windows OS stored upon it ( and only windows).

There is, I play on it in the weekend, but its a big buggy. Mine's not a legitimate version though, I didn't pay for it, though I am using a windows version code (which I did pay for)

Maybe if you bought the mac version it would work better than mine

Oh also, in my research for a mac version I came across something you might want to know. Don't buy it from an online site, they require you to be online at all times in order to play nwn. Order it as a solid dvd set.

Yep, you can use your keys and just download the disk from a torrent site (burning them to disk or using a image mounting program). Saves you the hassle…and while you there you can get Paragon Hardisk Manager. It really will save your life in cases where you have to even think to use the final option of reformatting.

Thanks. I've told customers a million times to have full back up images of their system in case of an emergency, I just had the illusion of god-mode because I've never gotten a virus myself and I know how to remove them if I did.

I was infected with the Rootkit:W32/Agent.UG virus this week. I ended up rebuilding Windows and reinstalling. I ran a manual clean but in the end, Windows was still corrupted. My current antivirus and malware scanners failed to clean/catch it. So no one is really safe.

Found out why I couldn't fix the problem, windows on bootcamp can't be fixed or formatted the same way. Had to wipe the bootcamp partition and start over. Might be back online tonight

So I followed B-Rock's advice and torrented it then used my windows keys but now I can't connect to COA server, as it says I am banned. I tested connecting to other servers and it worked just fine
