How Much Do You Quest?
-
@Leaders:
I made it to almost level 7 doing 7 total quests in less then a month. How? I went out and explored with groups, poked my nose into other peoples business, and ended up involved in lotsa plot stuff, which really is an easier and more consistant way of leveling. A few deaths set me back (ironically due to questing), or I would likely be well on my way to level 9 now.
Actually, imho. Quests is basically the main source of income. If your plotting needs funding. Especially evil types - buy over evil type chars to your cause/ pay to make neutral-folks stay silent/ order hits on good-folks. And to fund all these, I don't see any other way to get gold other than questing. Or doing work for other PCs who would pay you (and this gold probably comes from questing).
So, it's not so much the EXP, but the gold. To explore, the frontliners might use up a few barkskin/shield pots to keep themselves alive and the supporters may use some charges of wands. All these are expenses. Sure you get XP, but I'm not so sure if you'll earn through exploring - Unless a DM decides to throw you something fancy, that is. Oh, and also depends on where you're exploring.
Or maybe there are other channels of earning gold I'm not yet aware of. Sure DM events are mostly good for those, but other than that and questing..? And please don't suggest pick-pocketting. :P
Loot, gold, and experience all can come from exploration, simply because there are lots of dms these days, and they are more likely to hit someone up with a DM quest out in the wilds then they would someone doing the quest/market/quest routine. That being said, I have never been as rich as a constant quester, its true-but, even if I did quest more often that wouldn't be the case. I don't worry about the perfect synergystic party, and end up using lots of consumables. To me, however, thats fine. I had a character die with 8k in gold waay back in the day, and found myself wishing I didn't hoarde as much and spent it more freely. Ever since then, I have done exactly that. And, while there have been times I wished I could afford some healing before I went on quest A, or exploration group B, for the most part I usually sit around 1-2 k in gold until a big event comes and makes me load up on supplies more then usual. As far as loot goes, if you don't go around hoping for a plus 3 damage reduction 30/5 full plate, there is plenty floating around from DM stuff these days. I've given away freely stuff that I thought was pretty sweet, but didn't fit my character, and have been given stuff in return in the same fashion.
I guess my overall point is this; if you don't stress it, gold comes when you need it. So does loot and experience. Don't let them tie down how you have fun with the game.

Arabel is different to me then. Because when i Play arabel loot does not come to me.
And I could say more. Thanks to the gods for I have finally been blessed with some dm events in the past days because in the past I just don't saw them happening.
About the exploration - You mean party exploration right - Cause when I explore alone these things never happen. -

Relic was awesome from his almost constant questing and crafting to involving others in things i have to say he did alot that others looked down on but he had the right idea .."play the game to have fun".Maybe not the most indepth roleplayer ever but he stayed mostly ic with his characters went out and did tons of dm events so he must of done somthing right.

About the exploration - You mean party exploration right - Cause when I explore alone these things never happen.Yes, party exploration. Two things I have found the dms like, and they coincide. Go out and do stuff, and take people with you (this is where involve others comes in). While questing is doing stuff, and thats good too, you are less likely to find a dm probably because it has to get boring spicing the same quest over and over. Why be limited, when you can create something new?
As far as not seeing DM events happen, CoA has a learning curve. Things like having a clear purpose for your character all the way down to knowing when to back off from a dm event because it doesn't fit your character or theres just too many people already are things that DMs take notice of and appreciate in my experience. And when I say clear purpose for a character, I don't mean you have to have a epic storyline or anything, I just mean something like I'm a cleric of Lurue so I'm going to make a sending to get people together to look for a unicorn in the woods. That particular example will likely get you nowhere, because everyone seems to hate Lurue, but I hope it explains what I mean.

Relickiller was indeed awesome, and broke a lot of people into the game, myself included. The only thing i can say he did wrong was doing things he knew were questionable at best to further his characters exp, loot, and gold. Thats a pretty big thing though.

Yes you -can- earn gold by exploring and involving people in plots, and xp too. But even close to the amount that you get from spending that same time questing? Absolutely not.
This is now an official thread about Relickiller.
He was awesome. Very friendly OOCly and always there to help a noob like I was back then. Even although he played on the server in a different way, he enjoyed it, didn't ruin anyone else's fun (as far as I know) and I had a great time questing with him ^^

butbutbut what is there to do if not questing!? :O
-
There's only one thing to do when not questing: walking to the next questgiver to remedy that ASAP!

All day, every day.
