[Report to the Council: Caverns Beneath the Sewer]
-
It is requested that this information be kept only to those you trust most.
Sir Nicholas and Commander Ottilie lead our party on the hunt for the Vampire we believe is making home near Arabel. We started by searching the catacombs that are in the smugglers route nearby North Gate. We found a few oddities, some old runes near statues of two figures, objects that belong in the northern desert, containers meant for the use of mummification, and even a pair of statues. One of regal figure wielding a great sword, the other a dragon they did battle with.
Our search brought us to a deep pit, which we eventually all delved into to continue our search. The caverns were massive and dark, and we had precious little walkway to work with. The caverns went down further still where our light could not breach it. As we traversed I separated from the group slightly over a jump to investigate a stone tablet. It was found to be of Dwarven make, but i could not make out the runes. One my lead back, strange this started to happen.
My leg had been grasped by what I can only describe as a tendril of shadow. It tried to drag me further into the depths of the cavern. I tries hacking, prying and rending the tendril off but to no avail. Commander Ottilie, Sir Nicholas and Muric seeing my struggle came to assist me. All our weapons did not affect the tendril and eventually they attempted to drag the commander down as well. Then Darkness surrounded us as were were attacked by monstrosities. Myself and Commander Ottilie fought as we could from our place at the ledge, but we were being dragged down as well. The light from Sir Nicholas as well as Laam Wilaml brought us an eventual reprieve, and the tendrils retreated for a time. We were able to recover and cross the chasm once again to rejoin the rest of the group.
Commander Ottilie eventually shot a light into the darkness below us to get a better look at our situation. Then she told us to run as we started to hear the skittering of MANY claws on the walls. We did not move quite quickly enough and had to retrieve Dawn Squire Muric from the clutches of our foe. This time our weapons did nothing, our magic's mostly ineffective. Only Laam Wilaml in Sir Nicholas' hands was able to fell those on Muric, and hundreds now chased us. We fled as fast as our legs would carry. The caverns tunnels took us to a door which lead to the sewers beneath Arabel. We slammed close the door held it shut, and guarded while Commander Ottilie performed a ritual. For whatever reason, the beasts did not follow us.
We took stock and came to the conclusion that those were aberrations called Hooked Horrors, and Commander Ottilie saw a being that was of shadow, and had some effect on the weave itself. This being I have little understanding of as i did not see it, nor have a firm understanding of the weave, so I as Commander Ottilie to elaborate in more detail. After informing Great Druid Nanthleenee about the threat and some collaboration with Sir Nicholas later we came to the conclusion that only some Divine energy was able to harm these creatures that came after the first wave.
As we exited the sewers we came across a body of a man drained of all blood and life, with his face adorned with a smile of ecstasy. It is at this point a calling card of the vampire woman garbed in Coal and Crimson. We did not see her this time, but with this evidence we can assume she has easy access to the city, and possibly walks the city itself. The body was taken to the Temple of Tymora to be laid to rest, and we ended our expedition.
I would ask those who ere present to add to this report if there is something of note I missed. This is however a grave threat to the city that lays right blow us, and we currently cannot stop it should it wish to attack us. I will be leading further investigations, but caution is urged for those who venture into the caverns.
Torm guide our battles ahead.
