Zool's guide to everything

So the title might be a little over the top, Sue me!
I was thinking about some of the ways I've seen players go about thing in game. All the things, hence the title. The general mindset of having a "task" or "goal"
Focusing on minor things, but it scales up and applies everywhere
An example :
A character is trying to do a thing, and asks an NPC for advice.
The NPC gives them a hint, or something. Let's say it relates to an item you can find in game. Let's say it's ogre socks. So, player A reacts like this.
"ogre socks! Right, that's what I need, I'll put up a bulletin board post on the forums and try and buy some. Then I'll tell the NPC I have ogre socks, and ask what's next….. Wait! I have ogre socks in my pack! I'll just send the NPC another letter, awesome, now my story is sure to move forward!!!"
Player b receives the same advice, but this is players B's reaction.
"huh... I Have some ogre socks... But it's kinda boring to just pull them out of my magic bag full of everything ever, so... I'll put up a bulletin board post asking for wizards to help me analyse different ogre socks, put a bounty on ogre socks, and start searching with my allies and people I quest with for new ogre socks. I'll even look into the kind of material the socks are made of, collect some goblin hats, and compare them, maybe with the power of both combined, the NPC can learn something more to help my story progress... Either way, it's gonna be fun hunting for anti ogre and goblin weapons, going on missions to get crafting materials for said weapons, and hunting down ogres and goblins with a bunch of people I can try to get engaged with the quest for the ultimate evil in footwear...
Can you guess which is better???
