Making money at high levels without questing.
-
I used to play a character who would pay people for plot information, and then sell that information for twice the cost to ten times as many people.
She would either trade the plot for another plot, or for coin, and every single bit of info would get her massive profit.
Occasionally throwing a freebie to get people hooked on what you've got to say, some people would just give her information just because they wanted it out there.
By the end of her concept, she never really got past level 5 and I didn't quest that much, but she had roughly over 30000 gold mostly from doing this.
I do agree that plotting is all about risk, you have to lose something to gain something (otherwise its not worth it) for most people thats gold, for some its xp, and for some its the risk of everything you've worked towards crashing down on you…
But the point is, every plot could/should and usually does have a gain and depending on the approach you take this gain could just as well be acquiring resources.

Its a main part of the Ilmateri dogma to share healing supplies wherever needed, so you can just go ahead and sell your wands to anyone wishing. Just charge a fair price where you get some profits and you should see gold-levels rise soon enough.
If you are not 100% pascifist (or useless in combat) then bring some friends and go out to kill some bandits/goblins/etc. Those usually carry a whole bunch of gold and potions.Good example are trolls/gnolls in the Vast Swamp. They carry a decent amount of gold each. If you run into a good spawn then you have instant profit with little expense (since you can buff all you'll ever need as a cleric).

My thing is, i don't sell the wands and i do not really intend to. I make them so i always have a huge supply myself and i heal other people who are with me (those who've run shit with me know what i mean).
I can give an example, the -really- tough goblin camp we razed, i went through 4 full cure serious wands and 23 charges on the fifth. I don't mind it and to be honest, i have -no- trouble making enough gold for myself, it's keeping others alive that's keeping me broke (as it should, but i've trouble keeping up atm ;) )
I could go kill goblin spawns in the stormhorns etc with ease, but i prefer stuff that is less "farmy". I can make a shitload of gold with quests and some with plots etc, i'm simply looking for other options as well that i may not have thought up, and so far, this thread is good.

Run north king forest
wait untill kara-tur has enough funds to start lending
give kara-tur your wands and they'll sell it for you

Okay…time to be real here.
Plot is not the end all way to get gold, it is slow, costs more gold in the long run, and the rewards is even less gold that it took to get to the point that your concept is finished.
The only way to consistently get gold on this server due to not having a good crafting/merchant monopoly in place (aka good blood/bleakstones) is to quest hard or farm a spawnable area hard. (Or rob other people)
And thats pretty much it.

You might want to change your mind about selling those wands. Back when I was chasing Githyanki with Cora Stoutshield I was making gold hand over fist with wand sales.

You could seek a donation from those you know will use your goods for a good cause, occasionally droping some of the profit to the Ilmatari temple coffers, or just use this profit to promote something that would benefit the church. Of course you need some of it for yourself, so the donation would not be impressive, but as long as it seems you care IC or those tormented poor people Ilmater cares about it should be fine, Ilmater's champions must somehow get means to fight, and want it or not, coin is big part of it. Maybe a 20% of each sale profit goes donated? Might get a bit hard to keep a good flowing profit but you can adjust accordingly.
There are ways to justify it I think, without sounding like an excuse to get loads of coin (I do not think you will anyway if you keep plot active and generate fun). It is just that evil concepts usually have an easier time making those up, exception being when they 're banned from the city. Still spawns on the road provide for you, when I played a druid it really was impressive how coin sufficient she was as a character without much need for questing. I guess getting a group to do this really splits findings too thin.
Also, auctions, even small things you have and think of them as useful, maybe , sometime, someday, you really won't use them in the end as a rule, so dont be affraid to put a camo fruit in auction, or that handaxe +1 vs kittens (ok you should trash this one). I have the impression (maybe false, not pointing fingers) that happens a lot more in DM factions due to the availability of storage space. It is surely good to have a few magic weapons to hand to a proven ally, or new recruit, but there is the urge to hoard good loot, just in case it can be used in some plot.
While there may actually be a time, if a DM wants to give you a tool to make your dealing with a plot easier, he will anyway, so do sell that+1 longsword sitting in the chest for months, you can always refuse selling it to bidders not approved by the faction, or people you do not know, or heard before, in fear they 're in betweeners. Make an auction, say it is an errant for the poor of the slums or something, give a percentage away to them, keep the rest? I mean auction with your items, faction stuff could be a side project that maybe is approved, brings coin to the Harts and does some good. You know, like spring cleaning the cupboards.

Only way to make gold without a crafting system is to quest and to quest smart.
Take only who you need max ac on frontlines buffing cleric/wizard rogue to do the damage.
Thats the simple way one imp expertise fighter rogue wiz/cleric,now you can swap a cleric for a bard healing wise but bards can't give as good buffs.
This is how you make gold..you know this garder,My current main has crap ac due to having crap ac i have to buy very expensive potions this means i can over a days play break even or make a couple of hundred gold if i go on a dm event (done 2with her)i lose out the rewards never cover my costs the others in the group on my last one gained some nice items but i basicly was broke lucky i had also died as now im low level again and can do some fed ex's for gold. -
Crafting used to be a way to make a lot of money but we don't quite have a full system yet. You can always offer your services IC to people in exchange for gold.
-
@Khamal:
Plotting costs gold, it doesn't give any.
I agree 100%. It's where all the money goes.
-
You can make plenty of gold at high levels without doing any questing.
Experience on the other hand is much more difficult to get

It's possible to make gold from plots, however you have to be pretty clever as a player to do so.
Once you're high level, 10+ you should be doing mostly DM quests. They tend to (at best) reimburse your gold expenditure as a group. If you're a wizard or a cleric and for some reason your group does the imbecilic everyone gets an even share reward handout, then you'll probably walk away with a tidy net profit.
Below level 7 you'll basically be spending all of your gold to reimburse consumables. Once you're 7-9 you can make serious cash, and you can start putting gold towards big plots and conflicts. 10 and above still has plenty of gold, but your quest options are limited.
Speaking of which, considering how easy it is to hit level 10-11 now, we should have more higher level quests. I'd like to see a nice 9+ quest somewhere, with death magic, petrification, 20/+3 DR, 18AB and so on.

I sell arrows for 150 per stack..Someone buys ten I get 1500 gold, heck I get five people each to buy two stacks, I've made a killing and it doesn't feel like a lot so people will come back for more of them. Only problem is like what Hinty stated, the Price wars. Making a spear for only bare minimum profit loses it's appeal.
-
Price wars?
Start some agressive campaigns of dismantling the opposition! Enforcement squads, protection rackets, intimidation.
Do it IC and with consideration for the player, and you not only stand a chance of earning more money, you add entertainment to the game.
You just need to break the legs of those nubs who don't know there's a minimum price they should be selling at.
