WTF!

You put in a quest for Xmas, great.
I do it once, log in 24 hours later or very near. I try to do the quest again thinking it's just a little Xmas bonus and I'm accused of cheating and lose 3000 XP.
Happy Christmas!
Screw that, no wonder the server is losing players.84 xp and a piece of candy that quest is worth to me, and yeah I'm pissed off about it. I don't powerquest for XP and that'll take me ages to recover.
Happy Christmas.
EDIT : The questgiver only had to say "thanks for helping me earlier" or somesuch and no problem. Instead he leads you into thinking your questlog is clear by saying he'll send you if the other lot fails. Completely out of order, especially for an Xmas bonus.

guess we were warned. -
Warned providing you visit the forums and read all posts.
Not good enough, and to screw people over on Christmas day really isn't the way to go.

 QQ QQ QQ…. I lost 3k XP. me no win Arabel...
Too good to be true! A piece of candy with l33t spells! Yay! Lets get more and more!
XP doesn't mean anything except in PvP and getting gold. It's about the RP. Stop complaining about losing XP!

I agree that since this quest wasn't supposed to be repeated, that although a post in the forum SHOULD of course be enough, there could also just have been a longer than 1 reset timeout on the quest, or just an OOC warning on the questgiver not to take it more than once. Not everyone reads the forum religiously, after all.
From what I've seen of the different types of reward, there's a lot of variety in them: some are extremely good, while others are just 'meh, that's not going to make a difference'. Still, it's a gift horse and the thought that counts, so I'm going to have my character enjoy her lollypop, and just be happy for those people who got luckier. Maybe next time it will be me.
With the rewards possibly so great, of course the DMs will have to clamp down hard on the few people they will see cheating (even if not intending to). It still sucks to feel to be unjustly punished, but that's just one of the thing about participating in an online game like this.

Playing Arabel on Christmas, really?

…
Come on… not only was he completely right, but your sarcasm is extremely silly and uncalled for.

I second that! uncalled for and not in the spirit.
Why doesn't everyone loss the same XP for doing the missing dog or chicken quest, after 24 hours or after a reset.
The word 'Lame' comes to mind again.

A bit of common sense could easily apply. Everyone who plays on CoA should know by now what would equate to abuse of something or not.
And as 'Event' quests are rare everyone knows its safer to assume safely rather than dangerously.
You know the old common sense chestnut of if in doubt, dont and ask first?
-
Common sense is rather a missleading word in itself as it is based on your experience (Borg are an exception from this).
The problem here is that the facts that common sense is based on lead to contradictory conclusions.facts that suggest you can do it again:
-Usually you can do quests after reset again.
-It doesn't always give huge reward. (3 charges of fox's cunning doesn't seem anything OP, for example)
-Usually if you shouldn't take something but once, they script it so you can't.
-Usually if you shouldn't take something but once, they place an OOC warning.facts that suggest you can't do it again:
-it is made clear on the forums you cannot.
-Usually you can't take too high rewards more then once, see the 'too good to be true' rule.
-usually there is once Christmas a year.ect, ect.
Now a bit of common sense can easily apply. And everyone here used it. If I had 20 minutes less yesterday to read the forums, which would very much be possible on 25th of december, I would have lost 3000 XP myself. And I have meant to ask a DM when I see one if I should or shouldn't have two candies on one char, and trash one if not.Everyone has so much self confidence here when talking about business of others. Quite an attitude.

Talk to a DM about it instead of coming onto the forum and creating douchy post #1291.

Think I'd have to agree with what dark is pointing out. I only read the forums on the 26th, I briefly played 25. My character can't enter East Arabel in sight, but if I could have I'd have probably lost 3000 too, since there was no way I'd have known your only suppose to do it once (Although Im not sure what reward I'd have gotten or if it was too much or not so its hard to say if I'd have done it again)
However
A little warning on the quest end should have been made, not everyone reads the forums 24/7 and depending on reward "common sense" wouldn't always apply.
Anyways don't be angry, its suppose to be a festive season and erryone should be happies. ^^
-
I agree with Eliphas.
Someone mentioned it to me and I was like…no...the DMs wouldn't be that shitty, would they?
This is a case where there should have been a sign post, or piece in the quest dialog, that rather specifically states "You can only do this once. You have been warned."
One can only wonder about having a completely new person on the server, who may not have read everything on the forum before starting. They do the quest, and after the reset, they go back and try again. Unaware simply because they don't troll through every thread on the forums.
And then what do you have? A potential new member, driven off after seeing something fairly harsh, with no real IG warning.
3,000 XP was way to much of a penalty. If anything, 500 XP would have been more appropriate, given the lack of IG warning.
-
It isn't the XP, but that it suggests that you might be accused of cheating later on.
(if the other player I've met IG have shared the details of the sentence it says when it applies the penalty correctly.)
-
One post in the bug forum doesnt seem adequate enough warning especially if they are going to be accused of cheating and lose 3000 xp, perhaps with an ooc message in the quest giving saying once per character could have avoided all this.
But yeah other than that the quest was fun and a nice festive treat for this time of year! Thanks.
-
The first post seems a little hostile for something that was probably an oversight. I really don't imagine the DMs were intentionally trying to screw you over, more likely they didn't have time to fully script in the quest during the Christmas bustle. And while I can't say for sure since it didn't happen to me in this particular case, the 3000 xp loss and cheating message is an old script that's been on the server for years and usually only prevented people from joining parties during quest giver conversations to do quest that they've already done; it probably goes off automatically on this quest because it may not have been set up properly. I can't speak for the DMs but I'm guessing this wasn't intended and ranting on the forums wouldn't be the best way to deal with the situation anyways.

This reminds me of the hitchhiker's guid to the galaxy…

Oh, fer shit!
Next time I won't bother spending hours and hours creating a quest for your enjoyment next christmas, if all it produces is whining, complaints, arguments and grumpiness!
I'll just take it out again.
