Playing a successful monk

@Swifty:
even the low AB rouge hits better because of his sneak attack which negates dodge and dex AC bonuses.
Sorry, I don't mean to pick at mechanics, but sneak attacks do not negate dodge and dex ac. They are initiated in situations where creatures are flatfooted, but in those situations creatures lose dodge and dex ac to all attacks, not just sneak attacks. They are also initiated when flanking, but in those cases the creatures do not lose their dex and dodge ac. A monk would have the same chances at hitting something as a rogue in any given situation.
(and parry works just as well/poorly on monks as it does on any other character)

Focusing primarily on the rp aspect here, I never really understood how a monk could multiclass in FR settings. Monk is a lifestyle and doesn' lend itself to multiclassing for mechanical benefit.

Different monks have different lifestyles, leading to slightly different skills picked up in their lives.
Sometimes that's represented by another skill, sometimes by 1d6 sneak attack. -

I had a mystran monk whose focus was being a protector for wizards, whose interests was getting other to be respectful to those she considered "gifted" by mystra. And teaching classes in magical theory based on her spellcraft, even though she could not cast. Several of the wizards and mystran priests she knew and interacted with convinced her she could learn it, and over 6 months or so of RP, she took a level of wizard - and then, continued with that class. got to Monk 3/Wiz 4. Basiclly, that meant she could neither fight nor cast worth a damn.
was that multiclassing for mechanical advantage?
Blanket statements such as "for mechianical advantage" are usually wrong.
