Only with elves…

This link was suggested to me by Moloch a couple of years back, for a basic understanding of elven behavioral patterns.
It's pretty small, and not necessarily universal among all the elves, but it's a good glance at their general mindset.

I want to seriously stress the following point made in the above link. The current elven group is seriously a pain in the ass to get along with. Even the Thrar Everae had human allies and weren't complete jerks. People are going to hate you IC and OOC srsly.
Elves are not snobs and are not racial elitists. They do lament the destructive nature of the shorter-lived races, and they tend to have more accumulated knowledge and experience, which can make them seem aloof. But they do not believe they are better than other races. On the contrary, they believe that all forms of life are important, and if the shorter-lived races have a serious fault it’s that they don’t share this belief and tend to destroy and manipulate other living creatures.

I'd like to point out that elven behaviour also differs within their subraces.
Sun elves are more prone to the arrogant jerkiness than moon-elves. An accepting sun elf would be rarer than one from the moon elf race, and a personable sun or moon elf are 100 times more likely than a personable wood or wild elf.
Some elves will be racial elitists, seeking only the company of their own kind. Some will be liberal, getting along with everyone. Elves are individual, different and diverse even among their own kind, though not to the scale of humans.
-
From what I've read Moon Elves actually seek to interact with other races to spread thier culture.
-
Again, I'd suggest that the sections on the elven subraces from Lord Karsus' guide be read through. Moloch's link is more of a cheat-sheet.
Moon elves know that the only way for their race to survive is to live in harmony with other races. This is why most half elves are half moon elves.
Incidentially, it's also why the King's moonblade chose Zaor Moonflower, a moon elf, as the king of evermeet. Because Sun elves are simply unlikely to have the kind of tolerance that moon elves do.
It's also something sun elves resent very greatly, since they consider themselves to the the "true" elven race.

Disclaimer: BS Opinion
Unfortunately part of the problem with people playing elves is a certain sense of elitism ensues. This is actually somewhat IC, but this varies from subrace to subrace, elf to elf. Part of the reason it happens is elves are less likely to build stronger relations with the "lesser races" because they don't live as long (And loosing friendships hurts, which an elf will tend to take alot harder). This is also why elves are considered "flighty".
I try to stress from an OOC perspective to try and find reasons to lesson the elitism since it is a bit rude and I'd like to include as many people as possible, but in some cases it simply isn't within character. If characters are coming off as rude, RP it out. Those people who treated you like crap may regret it later down the road.
-
Maybe this should be moved to general discussion, as the topic seems relevant to CoA (Especially with current events) and has useful information in it.
-
My character has IC reasons to keep you at arms length, or even push you away.
Anyway, I for one am happy to see elves who don't play lapdogs of human factions, that is a refreshing change (for me at least). -

What is with the running commentary on the concept developing in game? The Eldreth Veluuthra is a prime example of the extreme Elven supremacists that can exist, I appreciate their mindset is a rarity among Elven culture and largely frowned upon however it is an existent presence in Elven society. I find it bizarre that someone would suggest OOC frustrations could manifest to a completely legitimate IC concept. Handle it for what it is, an in game – in character – representation of a fanatical and shamed branch of Elven society!
-
I frequently express OOC frustration for IC concepts, especially if the IC concepts don't provide fun for others. My opinion, ignore as you will.

You're right, conflict is no fun. We should just join hands and recite poems.
-
All IC conflict can be resolved with PvP

Kumbaya? Mary had a little lamb? If you play guitar, I'm all for this. Elves not invited!

Then we'll force our way in! Boom, instant PvP and fun.
