I'd need some help
-
I've opened a topic with this general title because I find myself unable to answer various questions about NWN and I don't want to spam the forum with a thousand topics.
I have a technical problem this time. When I host a LAN game (I play as a DM, I don't know if it matters.. it shouldn't…) PCs are unable to level. I hand them out enough XP, but no button appears. I can't recall if there was any kind of massage... It was a while ago. Perhaps something in the field that tells the amount of XP needed. (that should be 1000)
Any ideas what may cause this? I'm about to host another session in two weeks. (hence the topic, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions)
If the events I plan go well, we might have another new player or two here, so it really worthy to help me now! :D:D:Dthanks in advance!
:)This is a list of currently unanswered questions, so I can keep track of them.
-how do you change factions IG as a DM?
-any more 'smooth' tilesets?
-placeable scalingx a certain detail of the treasure-mechanism
-
Did you put a level limit on when hosting the server?
Is it your own module that you made? If not, maybe there's some script stopping it?Do the players see that they have, say, 2400xp, but no level up button appears, or what?
-
They see the xp, yes.
I've played the module before, it worked just fine.
Might have been level range, it is set to "1->1" by default at me now… It worked fine when someone else hosted it last time, but I have some reasons not to want others host this time. :)
I'll test it, thank you. -
what's the name of the tileset Tinker and Gmork used at the new gates?
Do I need extra files to use it? -
No you dont need more files and it is called Castle Exterior, Rural
-
thanks for the swift answer. I thought I checked all the tilesets… seems I didn't. :)
-
Are there any more tilesets with smooth leveleing instead of the old style nwn terraces?
(this word might not be appropriate. I mean that hight could only be parametered with an integer, not a floating point number. I know it's only smoothened between integers even with this tileset, but it's perfect in most of the cases.)

There are no other rolling hills you can get that don't require a hak
-
It will be a one-use module for my friends, so hak usage isn't an issue. Are you familiar with tilesets that require a hak file? I'd appreciate if you pointed me out to some neat tilesets. :)
Another question. While I run a game as a DM, how do I change faction of NPCs? Let's say I want someone to turn hostile upon a conversation, or PCs capture someone, and I want him to go neutral to portray him being tied.

A question about treasure system. I see treasure container placeables in the toolset. There are base containers of different level and other containers respectively to those levels.
I assume I put one base container and several normal ones, put things in the base container, and players will get random treasure from it when they find a normal one. Am I right?
If yes, will finding an item remove it from the base container? Is there still a chance finding nothing, or if I palce 2 containers and 2 items, they will find both? Can I place items into base containers IG as a DM?

If you are inclined to using the Treasure System by Bioware, I have made this diagram explaining the rationale of it in our DM Admin forums. Take a look. (Just forget that little part about the quest system in the first dialog box)
You can also send me direct questions by PM.
-
Thank you, this explains things perfectly.
Next question. Is there a way to make placeables, like trees, larger? I find even the largest one too small. :)
-
No, but there is some rather large ones in the toolset. If you had the skills you could build one in 3dmax.
-
Okay. Now there is something I really don't understand. There is a show fog button in the toolset. If it's on, my whole area is covered in fog. When it's off, I see the area in its daytime colors. But in game I don't see any fog neither during the day, nor after dusk. Where is the problem?
Can I set that the module time doesn't pass, and it depends only on the area? If yes, is it done by setting the module properties dialog box, advanced tab, minutes/hour raw to zero (or something?).

The fog is thicker the further you are away from stuff. When you are in the toolset you're very far above the map so the fog kicks in heavily. When you're in game you are zoomed in so don't see it as much.
