If you not in my "friends" group I don't care
-
This seems to be the growing trend.
Long time players here don't care much about the "new guys".
With two different characters I've called out for things to do and odds and end to go look for, and nobody shows. Adding to this I get skipped over on quests. I'll take him over you.So with being a new guy and no one here cares what I do. How would I go about making something happen, or should I just quit and find a better sever than this one?
-
Get together with a bunch of other "new guys" and then exclude the "friends" people from your quests, that will teach them!
-
It's really a matter of timing. Plenty of established characters make sendings and no one will show up. Just depends on who is currently on the server, what their levels are and if they are in the middle of RP or other quests. All those factors together can often make for slim pickings.
-
Could just be that you have a pretty negative attitude about things that turns people off from having fun with you. Your forum handle alone exudes bitterness and frustration and that goes a long way.
-
I spent a while thinking about how to respond to this statement, I really had no idea where to begin with my large displeased rant, and eventually just gave up and walked away.
-
I always look on how well my character knows that character. If I've seen a guy fight, and I know he fights well, AND he's a good companion to talk in travel - of course that I'll take him instead of a shady crook that wants to join.
Tho I quite often, if I can, take the shady crook as well. Just for fun.
-
I can understand your frustrations and we all know that this kind of thing happens. My best answer is to play a character that has a niche capability and try to sell the other characters on why he's/she's a good bet. Try involving others in RP before expecting questing. That usually generates a relationship where the other character can trust your character to do certain things.

Hate on Eraamion's character and you shall find friendship in many places.
-
I'd just say not to pay mind to those happenings, do your things and don't compare achievements or "gains" or you'll go crazy. There's no natural selection or what have you; in-game, it's all in the hands of people and everyone has varying degrees of various biases.
-
Heh. I never even knew there were sects in arabel that dont include new guys. I tend to try to get new guys in my quests. Though I havnt been on in a while.
-
I definately notice a shift in mindset between 'new' lower levels and 'old' characters who have run a few quests, dabbled in some plots, etc.
Best way to do it,. I think, is to get in with the other new guys, like Deadlock suggested. Sometimes - actually, a lot of the time I am guilty of this as well - we hit the grindstone at lower levels as opposed to RP. Goes so quick, now, nobody cares. It's cool when you can get a little RP in before or after or during, and it is the RP - being a reasonably competant and enjoyable companion - that sets you apart, no matter what you are doing. So, go for that. Be something other than a silent quester and open up some while you are at it. Use it to explore the character before the 'debut', so to speak.
Oddly, I always meet my character's best friends on the grind from 1 to 4. Then at around levels 4-5 is where we usually shift to being plot conscious and public figures.
-
In my case the only time they don't welcome me in groups is because of something I did with the character in question. With that being said, let me also say that I never been pass level 5 in the server, that I could remember. My characters are usually low levels, and I usually get in trouble with them too soon, or they begin to go in a direction completely different of what I was looking for.
-
Well, from when I play atleast, there's plenty of sendings for explorations, hunts, reagent-gathering, and so on. Even if it's of no interest to you, go with them! You never know what might happen.
Everyone starts off the same way, alone. It's quite easy to get into a group, people are advertising for help all the time! Take one of them up on their offers, and have fun.
-
People are constantly pleading for others to join their concepts either in game or the usual forum recruitment drive. It's everywhere and I think you'll be surprised at how happy someone will be with another man on board for their concept.
-
Keep at it!
I find many good players have times where they try and try to get new people involved, and the odd time where it would be stupidly OOC to include new charaters with no previous involvement. It is sadly true, but just stay confident that if they can involve you, they will.
Perhaps, if you're looking to get into a faction, send a message to someone in it. I know if someone sent me a tell saying 'Hey, I'm interested in getting involved in your faction. I'm going about it ICly but could do with an opening, if you wouldn't mind giving a chance?', would always be welcome. It lets them at least know that there is at least ONE person who'll show interest if you make something new to involve people, as it can be quite disheartening on the flipside, when you make sendings and forum posts and whatnot, just at the wrong time where no one shows up/shows interest.
Needless to say, its always best to show interest ICly as well. SHowing up and just saying 'I'll come?' doesn't make you sound as likely to involve yourself as 'I've been looking for a chance like this, care for another blade to watch your back?'
Of course, if its just a casual quest people are going on, they are almost certain to take those who look the most useful, or those they know and trust, over strangers. Thats the downfall of player limits on quests.

TY for the responses.
do your things and don't compare achievements or "gains" or you'll go crazy
I think thats it. I see all these people doing all great things and I can't get anything done.
But thanks guys and gals.
Cheers!

I know how you feel about not being able to get anything done. End up feeling that way myself, and in the end I figure I'm better at playing advisor/bodyguard/aide-like characters. It can work well, you can still be a plotting mastermind, so long as you can find someone(s) to be the face of it all. Some people just have a knack for those 'leadership' characters. :)

This is very true! Some people are just good at having a vision for their goals, or some sneaky and unorthodox way of carrying them out that's very novel. Don't compare yourself to others, and play what you want, how you want. You'll have fun, and in the end, isn't that what we're here for?
-
Try playing a minion for a while. See how the 'leaders' of groups do things, and motivate people, learn from them, you'll have fun while doing it, and maybe your next character can be an awesome leader who kills all the half orc or saves bunnys from dragons.
That's my advice anyway, I played a minion for ages, then played a minion who ran his 'masters' group, then played a 'leader' sort of.
I also advise trying to play a 'good guy' or at least neutral. I found it easier. Some people have a knack for evil anyway though.

There is alot less good and evil conflict on the server so if you want to get into the "in" crowd just work with everyone regardless of alignment or faction this seems to be the trend to getting into dm plots.
Also if you want to have fun that isn't involved purely with dm plots as the fish said play a minion to start with that way you will have others to count on,i admit finding somone to be a minion to can be a chore also but stick at it after awhile you will find somone or some group.
