Death penalty.

I like it as it is, it is harsh, but CoA would not be as realistic without it.
In other servers I have seen people complaning for loosing only 100xp lvl and 10% of gold, I think it is too easy.
CoA requires balls and some thinking, if you are too afraid to lose your levels buy supplies, get better equip and travel only with people you trust.
If you do not have wis enough, ask for tips from other characters.

Unrelated, but looking for realism in D&D, a system where people who study enough fling fire and death from their fingertips, death is little but a brief inconvenience for the rich, single fighters can decimate an army of hundreds and hardy adventurers run and swim in fullplate while dual-wielding katanas is a hazardous undertaking.

@Kathrine:
The bottom line is that if you're going to be mechanically successful in combat (and thus more survivable in adventuring and so forth) you -need- to have hitpoints, AB, skills to distribute and so on.
I disagree with that statement. Its more about having good gear.
I actually sometimes find it fun going back to lvl 5 from lvl 8. Sometimes I have such great gear for those lower lvls that I kick ass and it doesn't take too long to get back to lvl 8 so really who cares.And who doesn't like visiting Nada every once in a while?

Yeah Nadas with 27 AC. It's just silly

It is a good oportunity to gather cohorts and minions…
Who wouldn't like to work with someone that amazing?
You just have to play with the odds...
