Following another failed ambush on House Cormaeril by a gang of brigands, resulting in the demise of the entire group except one member who has chosen to leave the criminal path, a pall of unease hangs over the Manticore. The criminal minds of the kingdom are gradually realizing that a new era is unfolding, one where law enforcement is gaining strength and wrongdoers are facing consequences for their deeds. Nevertheless, the destitute and hopeless are still in dire need of financial means, especially when an exceptionally substantial reward tempts even the most daunting missions.
