Oaths and Prayers of the House of the Morning
-
I was inspired this fair Dawn to make a prayer to holy Lathander, and I feel that, since it felt as though it came through me and not from me, it will not be self-aggrandizement to reproduce that prayer here, in writing, for the edification of those who may join our fold after me.
I likewise encourage my fellows of the House to write prayers, oaths, and the like, in kind, that we may learn new perspectives from one another on the glory of our Morninglord.
-Dawnsquire Lautrec
[There is a small gap, and then a transcribed prayer, in handwriting more careful but otherwise identical. Ample space is left below that.]
A humble prayer for the promise ever kept
Highest praise be unto You, O Bringer of the Dawn, for how Your Light shines upon this town and all its denizens.
I pray to You that I may be found worthy of the honor of bearing that Light in Your holy name;
that I may bring that Light and compassion to shine where there is darkness and despair;
that I may, in Your name and to uplift Your most sacred wishes, be capable of helping to right the wrongs what beset us and to see cured the taints of the land;
that those in our fold who have been harmed by wicked forces may yet live to see myriad sacred sunrises, and be made whole again.
"In the Dawn, beauty reigns, and the way is clearer." May the promise of that Dawn ever be fulfilled. All this I pray, in the name of the Morninglord.

Oath of the Morninglord, may He find us worthy. This is the way.
• I will protect my allies with my life. They are my light and my strength, as I am their light and their strength. We rise together.
• I will seek out and destroy the filth of the Undeath. If I cannot defeat them, I will give my life trying. If my life would be wasted in the attempt, I will find allies. If any fall because of my inaction, their deaths lie upon my soul, and I will atone for each.
• I am fair to others. I expect nothing for myself but that which I need to survive.
• The best battle is a battle I win. If I die, I can no longer fight. I will fight fairly when the fight is fair, and I will strike quickly and without mercy when it is not.
• I will redeem the ignorant with my words and my actions. If they will not turn toward the light, I will redeem them by burning away the taint.
• I will not abide evil, and will combat it with steel when words are not enough. I do not flinch from my faith, and do not fear embarrassment. My soul cannot be bought for all the stars in the sky.
• I will show the less fortunate the light of the Morning Lord. I will live my life as his mortal instrument, shining with the light of truth.
• Each day is another step toward perfection. I will not turn back into the dark. -
The prayer of the dawn
“We welcome you, Morning Lord, and we honor you this day
Celebrating your light, as we partake in our journey once more
We honor you Dawn Lord, for you are the beacon who casts away the gloom
And we devote our days in your holy name, and the darkness we shun.”The prayer of the Noon
O Lord of Light, illuminating the path
Saving us from the darkness beckoning wrath
We carry out your will, Dawn Lord
Your light, your loving ways are forever adored. The prayer of the Dusk
Farewell, Illuminated one, until we meet again
We carry the sun in our hearts until then
Give us the strength to carry on
We, your faithful, stand guard until the next dawn. -
An oath of a Paladin of Lathander
- I swear to be as reliable as the sun in its daily path, by obeying all laws just and fair. Laws exist to prosper and protect those living under them.
- To never become fatalistic, for with each new dawn comes the possibility of renewal or reinvention.
- To start each day by choosing the light and inspire others to follow your example.
- To protect and encourage life and its creations, for with new life comes new energy and new beginnings.
- To always strive for improvement. Change is inevitable. Stagnation and mediocracy are slow deaths, that extinguishes the inner light.
- To always offer a new dawn for those who seek it, and view each misstep is an opportunity for a fresh beginning.
- I will always be unyielding in the war against the darkness. The light of day is not a natural state, but only comes when the sun has fought the night and emerged triumphant.
- I swear to never let a statement be false with neither tongue nor quill but remember that there can be no light without a shadow.
- New life brings new energy and new beginnings. Protect and encourage those who create life, and those young whose promise is yet to be fulfilled.
- Undead is the antithesis of life and rebirth. Undead take from the life cycle rather than contribute to it and must be destroyed wherever they are found.

Where does the sunlight reach?
As we preach?
Dawn knows
And where does the vile darkness hide?
At noontide?
Dawn knows
Where does the bright flame rise?
With allies?
Dawn knows
And where does the enemy lurk?
When we work?
Dawn knowsWhere does the answers lie?
As you comply?
And where does your heart hide?
As you decide?
Where does your deepest truth stand?
As you leave with the cash in hand?
And where does your loved ones rest?
As you walk with evil abreast?
Dawn knowsWhere does rebirth begin?
As sun rise?
Dawn knows
And where does new acceptance bloom?
As evil doom?
Dawn knows
Where does the old scars heal?
Dawn knows
And where does fallen evil kneel?
Dawn knowsWhere does the light shine?
Dawn knows..
Dawn knows...
And where does dawn rise?
Dawn knows..
Dawn knows... -

By Morning Lord, who your spirit rise toward.
Your life passed, final rest at last.
By dawn you will be reborn, whilst you we mourn. -

Enveloped in darkness, eyes blind whilst the mind dances.
Spinning wheels of dreams, ever looping whirlwind of mischances.
Hands reaching, shrouded by shadows most enthralling.
Even in seeming endless darkness, the light always calling.Fear festers in the dark, yet the heart seeks all answers.
Heed the clarion call, cast away the void's wicked dark cancers.
Grip onto the reaching, rebirth and redemption comes.
Challenges a plenty, dark hisses and whispers as rage drums.Light seeker wounds enduring, pride frail as morning brews.
Dreams sweet and calling of light alluring, still night blocks the views.
Damned come crawling, soon nipping at light seekers bruised heels.
Grip slipping, hardship tipping, hands reaching destroys sin appeals. In depth of darkness, the Morning Lord's light shining through.
Dark vanquished, now reborn with dawn light seekers' hearts singing true.
Legends from journeys hardship, from their words hands reaching.
Once light seeker hands reaching, now their hands also light preaching. -
Maire's Oath
Given in the Priory of the Dawn, Ashabenford, Mistledale.
Mirtul 25, 1357DR
As a paladin, I am the servant of the Morninglord; I shall at all times display his grace, vitality, and love of life so that others may see, in me, the light of Hope he promises.
I will strive each day for self-improvement. If I fail, I shall rise again, unceasing my pursuit of self-perfection.
I will adhere to the laws of the land and our Church, but never shall I adhere to any ritual, rule, or direction that prevents me from assisting others. No such law can be written, nor order given, that could be fair or righteous.
All things are evident within the first light of Dawn, and so shall I be; I shall not lie, cheat, steal, or commit murder. I will always speak the truth and never forswear myself once my word has been given. I will remain as constant and as trustworthy as the Dawn.
In every sunrise exists the promise of a better world; I will always strive to foster new hope and new ideas within my companions, seeking the light of inspiration that has renewed and reformed so many mortal souls in the first rays of Dawn.
I shall be wise and gallant in battle; I shall strike at Undeath where I find it, and Evil where it hides in darkness. Never shall I allow myself to fall to evil ways or means seeking mere victory; nor will I waste my life in hopeless combats.
I will work instead so that the pass of my sword will produce the best and most significant result and never draw it against anything I do not mean to slay in both body and soul. The light of the Dawn shall scour evil and never be used for personal gain or against the innocent, the poor, or those most in need of its warmth.
I shall carry this light into the dark, lifting my companions to greater heights and guiding them from the fore. I shall not allow the darkness to remain within reach of my sword or word but cast it out before me like the last dark hours of the evening, forced to yield to more extraordinary powers.
I have been given the Light of Dawn to carry, and this burden and joy I shall take even into the darkest places without fear, for I carry the light within me, to illuminate the path until I must pass it on to others, my gift to them and to this world.
There shall always be another Dawn.
