Discord and censorship
-
Just from what I've read, it sounded like someone wanted to prevent a toxic environment. It also sounds like it could have been handled personally.
The aggressor has stated their case, no dialogue has sprung from it. I have NEVER seen CoA more open to people saying basically whatever the Hell they want. A moderaton makes a controversial call and it is censorship?
This feels like it is way overstated in relation to the actual offense. Just send a PM.

As an aside, sometimes you have to apologize even if you feel you've done nothing wrong. We can all rationalize our own behaviour, but at times, you gotta accept that you pissed people off and apologize. I don't think anyone did anything wrong, but this thread is weird. To me anyhow. Discord is broken into a million channels. JUST TAKE IT TO ANOTHER CHANNEL. Someone could also suggest politely to perceived offenders they... take it to another channel.
Just like, my opinion, man.

Noone had raised a single complaint and everyone was being both polite and nice about things before all of a sudden the entire channel is simply told to shut up "because i said so and why is none of your business". If you think that's all fine and dandy, then you obviously have a right to that opnion.

I have seen a community torn apart by toxicity and fueding oocly between players over discord/skype. The community I left to come here is infected with hatred and fighting oocly between groups of players. I understand that censorship is bad, but in some cases it's actually better for the community if ooc fighting comes to a halt. I don't want to see this community torn apart. I think it's fair if a dm asks you to stop fighting over discord. Their jobs are to create an inclusive environment along with good rp events. I think apart of that is helping to keep the peace. Anyway, that's my take on it.

@citizenbane I can only use what is presented before me. I stated in no uncertain terms the offender could just muscle up and apologize.

I agree completely. But in this case noone was actually fighting and both sides were very surprised at the sudden "stop talking about this" comment, especially since it's stated that noone said anything offensive.

@citizenbane Perhaps it could have been related to the server then? I can understand why if it was ic information being discussed.

I'm against censorship of all kind. IC and OOC. If you're offended by somebody's words, mute/block. Even if you censor a whole lot, there will always be people who are offended by something.

I think you were too busy thinking up ways to ruin my joke to actually soak in what I was saying Mr Bane.
Why did I say "pm a dm instead of publically attacking them?" Because these types of threads are draining for DMs, and while they are sometimes necessary to have an open debate about things players disagree with I don't think this particular subject scratches the surface of that need. Burnt out DMs leads to a boring CoA, at least until we hopefully fix that in version six, so its bad for the server.
Why did I say "keep the main channel clear of any conversations that someone could reasonably find offensive?" Because people have quit over certain comments on discord. That means we are going in the wrong direction of the goal before we even start. That's bad for the server.
Why do I say "when someone asks you to end the conversation or take it to a room like politics just do it?" Because most of the time even if its a silly request the request is coming with the communities best interest at heart. So, really, I'm not asking you to respect the person telling you to end the conversation, but rather respect the community you are part of instead of expecting everyone else to conform to how you think it should be. That last bit goes for everyone. And as I said in my initial post, anyone can send along a pm regarding a dm going overboard to any other dm, we take that stuff seriously.
So, how about we all wind down the negativity some and start figuring out ways to get new players excited for COA with the EE?

I'm a hundred times more offended at being blocked than being asked publicly to drop a topic. Blocking function is something invented against porn ads and spammers. If you'd ever block me, please first tell me to shut up!

Mic drop, topic lock :)
