How to play this on a Chromebook
-
Hello CoA,
Anyone smart enough (gauntlet thrown down) to be able to teach a computer illiterate person like myself how to get NwN to run on a chromebook? I understand that something called a "virtual machine" or something needs setting up?
Googling has simply pointed me towards guides that bamboozle me. Any assistance appreciated.
Cheers,
Ord

There's actually a few ways that can be done to make that work. before I start laying out stuff though, can you tell us what model it is? (the model number ideally) so I can do some research on it?

New plan!
This thing should run CoA right?

It is actually tragic how I've lapsed in my computer knowledge.

Yes it should, though I'd -STRONGLY- suggest putting Linux Mint on it (you can put it on a USB key and run it off that to get you feet wet) it's also a hell of a lot less resource intensive than Vista. I was actually digging up how to set up your chromebook to run it, but if you're going to get this thing instead, that might be a way to go, too.
I'm very partial to linux, hilariously so, for a number of reasons but it really does breathe new life into older machines. I'm using this one: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-ThinkPad- ... B000TUGSC0 and it sings on Linux where it chugs a bit under windows 7.
It's just a consideration, but as I said you can run it off of a USB key, so it might be worth trying!

Thanks for the advice Slushie. I'm having a punt at getting my old, old…oh so old, PC back up and running first then may go from there.

Sure, just shoot me a PM explaining what's wrong, I'll do my best to help!

That particular Dell will NOT run it very well. Its video sucks. you'll have horrible horrible framerates.
This one would be much better. older Precision M6300 go for $100 and were $3500 portable workstations when new. That other one (latitude) was a low-end $700 corporate throwaway.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Precision- ... Sw3YNXYUiSI still use a similar one, as a kickass thinclient.

Just cutting in; Vista does not like Nwn. It was a known issue that as far as I know, was never actually fixed even when nwn was still being supported by bioware.

This do the business?

I recently bought a Chromebook Pixel, so I am very interested in if you can make this work.

There are quite a few guides on doing it the Chromebook way, but it's a bit out of my scope as I'm not sure if I'm just going to massively compromise something that I actually need to use on a regularly basis, hence looking at refurbs.

So yeah, the above laptop I linked. I don't see any reasons it wouldn't work. XP, high enough processor, DX9 graphics card…Anyone see a flaw in my logic on this one?
If not, I'll get it ordered.

I used to play on a Dell 610, till the machine perished due to a motherboard issue, the one problem i found with it, other than its eventual demise, was a propensity of the keyboard to act ..weird
a usb keyboard tended to work well though
