Temple Assault - Banite vs Tempans

I apologize if you feel 1-2 hours of your time cannot be done doing something else, IKnowNothing. Some events take priority over questing
I've participated in permadeath events where there's been PVP and no one were asked to log out, or stop doing their own stuff. I find it insulting that this one event will prevent all the others to log in. That's just the way I see it.
-
You can disagree with me, IKNownothing, but server resources are limited, and I won't allocate them to casual RP in the Spire or buffs from Raznor. I know it's frustrating, and to a new player who doesn't realize that a 15 year old game cannot really handle server wide PvP very well, the point of view seems valid (the one you're expressing) but it will be a lot more fun for everyone involved on this event if they aren't screen jumping across the map or dying to completely avoidable things because potions aren't firing...
-
@IKnowNothing It really depends on what the server can handle. Largescale events like these, I've played on a few different servers where you have to log out if you aren't participating. That little bit of lag can cause HUGE problems to those that are a part of the event.
-
I am very sorry for any inconveniences this may cause, but lag is indeed the greatest killer in NWN.
I really appreciate the lengths Spiffy is going to to ensure that there is as little lag as possible.
Sorry friends.
-
And Lag Death is one of the most frustrating deaths there is.
-
This is really a very standard request during mass PvP, war events (PC vs PC that is) and the like.
The outcome of the march, for example, will cause server wide ripples, and would anyone really want such a momentous event to be decided by a lag death or a potion or a spell that didn't fire in time?
I remember back in the Gromfia days, the entire settlement was destroyed because one wizard was accidentally on sparring mode instead of full death. There are no do-overs, so that was that. The server could have been very different had he not been. At least in that case, it was his fault. A lag death won't even be a PC's fault.
-
What if you are in old town watching is that fine?
-
@T-Bone just stay out of it. If you aren't a part of the battle, don't be ig.
-
-
Both sides, reasonably, will assume anyone, not on their side is an enemy.
If you -REALLY- Wanna watch, you accept the possibility of FD.
The end.

Spiffy even rephrased what he had to say so it won't even sound offending.
I think he is really supportive and approachable in this.
But let me go a bit over this. I don't know how long you have known him, but compared to his tone when he was just a player he became 100% more friendly, reasonable, supportive. To me the change I have noticed not only makes it easier to approach him as a DM but speaks about that he treats this whole thing more a service, and not a position of power. From what I see in the last couple if years, that is the attitude of all of our DMs.Can you, please, in return try at least half as hard not to get offended, even when what they say can be read as offensive? (depending on the tone you attach it reading it)
It's really hard to watch each of your words cautiously to sound perfect all the time. Until it's one case of a hundred, or twenty, I find it better to assume they do not mean any harm. And I really mean to address all of our players with this, no personal message, demands, offense or anything meant.
((sorry for the somewhat oddly forced choice of words here, I mostly speak about crossbows and fantasy gods when I use english, not being human. :) ))
cheers,

Perhaps brainstorm to find a way to do this another way?
On BGTSCC on nwn2 we used to host a second server on the same host machine to hold massive events with 70 people, so the others who didn't want to participate could still log and do their thing. Also, lag happens on both side in a pvp.
-
That was BGTSCC on NwN2.
I am not hosting a second server.
I apologize, @IKnowNothing but I am not changing my stance here.
If you're not part of the event, and aren't willing to risk FD by watching it, don't login. It's one event, for 2 hours most.
-
Although I understand the lag is an issue, it is the first time I will be forced to log out for an event after over 10 years of play. It seems strange to me, but I will obliged.
Those concerned by faction bugs, there is a simple way to avoid this. Limbo all unnecessary NPC in the areas involved, then set the rest to the independent faction. Its there for a reason. The DMs have the tools to minimize faction issues -when they can get to it beforehand-.
Once the event is over, I am sure the DMs will let us all know on the forum and IRC. It is frustrating for those of us not involved, having to wait to play the game we love simply because we are not involved in a single event. Hopefully, the V6 CoA will have a better management of resources that will not force us to log out for these sort of events. Current version is a load of old scripts and resources that needs cleaning up, but at this point, its simpler to redo from scratch than try and clean up everything.
I have two questions however:
- Will there be a server reset after the event?
- Should it take more than an hour, will the lycanthrope event be delayed or canceled?
-
- Yes, there will be a reset.
- It will be delayed.
- I apologize, but the last divine march was an absolute LAG FEST, and I want to minimize this to the greatest extent possible.
-
thank you for the swift answer Spiffsters!
-
Event over.
As normal~!
