The "Flash" in the Pan, The Hot Sauce, the Short and Sweet

Don't be afraid to mix it up. Try different types of characters, this will push you as a roleplayer. Get stuck in a rut, and you'll get bored pretty quick, because predictability will sink its hooks in you.
I notice a lot of people tend to play very similar characters that are often just spins on the same character. It's easy to fall into, if you find something you enjoy its only natural that you'll gravitate towards it. But playing something different and trying things outside your comfort zone can really keep the game feeling exiting, I highly recommend it.

I find the flash in the pan characters are actually really helpful after one of my long lived characters dies. Regardless of how the long lived one did setting wise, try playing a flash in the pan next. Deliberately stretch yourself and pick something you dont normally play. You know it wont be forever (unless something strange happens and the character turns long term). Also, it helps alleviate the "old char mark 2" scenario by making a clean break and giving you time to craft up a new long term character.

Awesome essay, thomas. Makes me feel like playing NwN again to think about it.
My most enjoyable and well known characters were always of the flash type, getting into trouble right off the bat, They just so happened to survive their own antics and surprising people were quick to jump onto his bandwagon, no matter how suicidal it seems.
People like action. It leads to excitement.
