If you could change a NWN mechanic….
-
whats combat reaction?
-
I think that's combat reflexes? Ie, you get as many AoO's as your dex mod, per round.
-
Yeah, it's a PnP feat called "Combat Reflexes"
-
They didn't add it to nwn for balancing purposes.
-
I can understand that.. in PnP I've made a light armor dual shortsword of wounding wielding fighter based off of massive amounts of AoOs you can potentially get nearly 10 or more attacks around at higher levels like that. I'd have to say if I changed a mechanic it would have to be adding a Sense Motive (Wis based) to counter Bluff. As it is with enough bluff there is no way to really know if they are telling a lie. Bluff isn't a power skill, it's supposed to be an Opposed Roll vs Sense Motive. That skill alone would help any Guard type, Investigator type, or even Judge type characters. Or just all around useful for shady characters too to know when the underlings or even the bosses are lying!
-
I would like to see toggle modes for abilities, like NWN2, so that your expertise or whatever doesn't drop every two seconds.
I'd also like to see a ranger class more like the 3.5 kind, more specifically with the extra skillpoints per level they have.
Some skill changes, rolling all social skills into one diplomacy skill, adding Survival. Adding Sense Motive (there really isn't any kind of counter-roll to social rolls atm)I could go on…
Edit: My top pick would be one of either Remove the "tab" highlight all function entirely, or disable Party system entirely.
Edit2: Or! How about locking the camera so you can only pan it 90 degrees to either side....
-
I would not only add Sense Motive as I said above, but I would also make Druids more like the PnP model and allow them to sacrifice prepared spells to cast the appropriate Summons spells.
-
I would like to combine, intimidate, persuade and bluff into just persuade. Intimidation and bluffing are both forms of persuasion, you're either trying to persuade someone that a lie you're telling is the truth, via bluffing, or you're trying to persuade someone via intimidation.
Remove Intimidate and bluff in favor of just persuade, and add sense motive as a skill.

I like the way Ravenloft does it, making persuade and bluff into one skill ''Influence'' and taunt, intimidate into ''Antagonize''

Don't lock the camera, that'd be a nightmare. I spend have my time trying to adjust my camera to make half of what's on screen visible >.>

In no particular order:
-
Combine all social skills into one Diplomacy skill
-
Quickslotting of Counterspell
-
Improved pathfinding (it's stupid your character will walk around a rock, but walk into a wheelbarrow or tree and just stand there like an idiot)
-
Tracking for more than just rangers. A rogue with maxed out spot should be able to notice the footprints of a giant or multiple tracks of dire wolves, for example
-
Adjust the weight of ranged weapons. Darts are 5lbs for 50 (unless you find certain special ones), but all arrows, bolts, and bullets are 0lbs for no matter how many you carry. Either lower the weight of darts, or raise the weight of the others, or have them meet somewhere between
-
Darts should stack in more than 50! rows, bolts, and bullets stack in 99 - why not darts?
-
Disguises - but should be backed up by some Bluff points
-
Copper, Silver, and Gold coin rates
-
Kill book - some way of keeping track of how many of X monsters you've killed. like a trophy collection (though this isnt a NWN mechanic, but might be something that can be scripted?)

Can't you just put notches in a stick or something aka do it yourself via journal? Not sure I would want to tax a server to track that much data for everyone just to be able to say "I've killed 4495 Rats!"

Just reminding that in PnP you have :
Bluff, Intimidate, Diplomacy, Sense Motive, Gather Information as social skills.
Getting synergy bonuses would rock though. +2 to intimidate because you have 5 ranks of bluff and so on. -
Just reminding that in PnP you have a dm overseeing EVERY SINGLE FIGHT, meaning those skills can actually be put to use in just about every single situation you see fit to use them in.
Also in PnP bards and rangers get more skillpoints per level.
Also in PnP diplomacy is broken, it gives a DC to change your targets opinion of you from one category to the next, the npc does not get a save. This means that you could max out your diplomacy skill and make the evil antagonistic lich boss go from hostile to friendly whether he likes it or not unless your dm does the right thing and slaps you across the head while saying no.

Id like to see Clerics and Druids get to use there chosen deities prefered weapon without spending a feat for it. sort of makes sense that somone who worships the painbringer would use a whip, almost as a require, ment of thechurch, to spend a feat to do that seems a waste of a feat. but, what do i know. I think the hanse tree should be killed off :-)
-
I would make it so that medium sized weapons could be wielded with two hands without the presence of a shield or an off-hand weapon.
Also this:
I'd also make reach weapons actually have reach, like longspears and whips.
As well as fixing Circle Kick and Whirlwind Attack!
-
circle kick and whirlwind attack might be possible to fix, sort of.
-
Actually the idea of two handed medium weapons is a really nice idea mostly since a katana technically is a one and a half handed sword like the bastard sword. Also I believe it and the bastard sword are considered martial when wielded with two hands though I feel that might be just too specific.
-
A no-dachi would be pretty cool. Two handed katanas, basically.
