Trying to Walk as an elf…
-
My newest alternate character is an elf and I discovered that she has a dreadful time walking unlike Bri who I turn search on and leave it at that. I know that you can walk my holding down shift and clicking but I find this a bit annoying and makes me have spirratic bursts of random sprinting some times. I was wondering if there is another way around it that I don't know of so I don't need to constantly hold down a key?

You can, if I'm not mistaken, bind a key to toggle walk/run.

Yep! Just check your key bindings. W defaults to 'run' but you can change it to 'walk' and you'll walk when you push W

Thanks I'll try some of these. [Takes of at a sudden random sprint and hits a wall with a thud.] Dur.. :P

I play lots of elves, and its a pain in the arse. everyone else can walk and talk. But because you have to bind a key to walk it makes holding a coversation while your walking a bit of a nightmare. so alot of the time i end up with random bursts of movement and sudden random stops because im trying to hold a conversation. So some of the time i choose not to try and have a conversation when walking. Hopefully people realise its due to game mechanics and not my pc's being rude.

If you're trying to hold a conversation just hold down shift, click the location you want to walk to and type your stuff. It's pretty easy once you get used to doing it. :)

It's a bit painful, but I've noticed that with my elf characters, it's just adjustment. Shift-click and you walk, just don't click on anything interactable or you will run. Click next to transitions/doors and then walk up to them, then click on the object. While you walk, you can type normally.
If you play a full-plate elf or something, sneak works just as well as detect mode, in being 'walking mode' without actually affecting your gameplay.
Other then that, there is really nothing anyone, even DM's can do, I think, since elf search behavior is hard-coded into the game.

if I recall correctly, if you click and hold the cursor close to your character you walk. I think if you click and hold very close, you walk slowly.

WASD or join the pointy eared Cult of the Shift Clickers. Just don't drink the Koolaid!

I never had that problem with Hound.
But then I was always on stealth  -
I think its possible to set the Detect Mode as a feat for Elves. Simple override.

lol…life is not easy...

true, but one problem i can think of with this, ( i haven't tried) is, when you hold down shift, it makes something CAPITILIZED, SO WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ITS LIKE THIS…. which imply's "yelling".... i think its a bit weird that your character is always YELLING whenever you walk & talk.....

Shift only has to be pressed down for the click.
