A brief history of Cormyr, by Tanya
-
-230 CR- Lord of Scepters Iliphar Nelnueve of House Amaratharr claims rule of the Forest Country ( What now is Corymyr) upon his defeat of Thauglorimorgorus the Black, or Purple in a Dragons duel of honor. This land is the prize of the duel, and is vacated by the Purple Dragon shortly thereafter.
-19 CR - Ondeth Obarskyr, a farmer and frontiersman from Impiltur, and his family settle the ground where Suzail now stands, the village growing around it is named Suzara after his wife, who tires of the frontier life and returns to Impiltur. His son Faerlthann, with the elven permission, declares himself king of Cormyr in 26DR upon his fathers death(year of opening doors).
An elven warrior - mage named Lorelei Alavara attempts, against Ilphars wishes, to eject the humans and is defeated by Ilphar’s followers. Her campaign is motivated by a death : her mate Thatoryl Elianwas had been killed by Ondeths brother Andar. Her vengeance sleeps awhile, but does not die.1 CR - Cormyr Reckoning calender begins (25 years behind DR)
87 CR - Cormyr,Cormanthor, and Dalelands mapped by Cormyrian cartographers
King Rhimaan the Glorious slays the last great red dragon of the Wyvernwater (date unknown) and pushes back the borders of the forest. With the dragons that had ruled it gone, and portions of the forest cleared, Cormyr has its beginnings as the country we know today.
138 CR - Ring of Winter used to destroy a village and lords estate (163 DR, year of Screeching Vole). Last known sighting of this artifact.
376 DR (351 CR) The Shoon Imperium extends Calimshans sovereignty to the High Moor. An army led by lord Ashar Tornamn holds these lands and exacts tarriffs from all trade routes within until Prince Azoun 1 drives them back through Amn, Tethyr, and Valashar. Cormyr has its first campaign with allied nations against a common foe. The lengendary sword Ilbratha is comissioned prior to this campaign. This blade "mistress of battles" is later lost in a shipwreck off the coast.
Dima , a Djinni-lord of the Chondalwood, is slain by Azoun 1.386 birth of king Duar, who estabilishes the first standing army of good size and equippage, and adds Irongates Gard castle, Jarthroon, and Wheloon to the kingdom. Among his notable victories is the eradication of a great orc army near the Hullack.
During his reign Magrath the Minotaur subdues and occupies Suzail.710 DR (685 CR)Year of Toppled Throne- Drow attack claims three noble families. Most of the bodies are never found.
900 DR, Galaghard III Accedes and fights the Witch Lords, a campaign that takes “half the nobles of the Glory of Corymr” to their final fates. The greatest battle occurs within the Vast Swamp, where elven stag calvary led by Othorion Keove buttressed the Cormyrian effort toward a hard - won victory.
906 DR - Year of Plough - Cormyte agents take the Ashaba valley and call it Shadowdale
1117 - The Bandit Lord, Rivior, comissions a dwarf - constructed stronghold north of Eveningstar. Enchara, warrior queen of Esparin (a small realm since absorbed into Cormyr) lures him and his band out one harsh winter with a caravan rumored to be loaded with fine foodstuffs, and slays them.
The place is inhabited in turn by many fell things, including monsters created by Zhentarim wizards to keep away people who might disturb their doings there.1139 - (1164, Year of Long Shadows) Immurk the Invincible captures the coronation crown of Palaghard 1 in an act of piracy on the Inner Sea. The nations of the Inner Sea, including Cormyr, Sembia, Impiltur, and the city-states of
Procampur and Starmantle begin building fleets to hunt the pirates in their own lairs as, bolstered by Immurks example, piracy rages out of control. Westgate, still struggling to rebuildits royal treasury and fleet of ships, does not participate. At the urging of his advisors,
despite strong personal reservations, King Blaervaer issues a royal edict that defines piracy as a raid against a ship docked in Westgate's harbor. As a result, Westgate becomes a relatively safe port for pirates to visit, and the city's inhabitants need no longer fear pirate raids.1191 - last Goldfeather executed for treason by King Dhalmass (acceded 1186) (more to be added)
The Goldfeathers plotted against King Draxius in 629 DR, fomented an unsuccessful rebellion (or unsuccessfully fomented?) in Arabel and were stripped of nobility.
1204/Year of the Private Tears
The pirate Urdogen claims the Dragonisle and rule of the pirates of the Inner Sea. He begins raiding all Inner Sea ports.1209/Year of the Blazing Banners
The (naval) Battle of the Fallen: Cormyr, Sembia, Impiltur and the Vilhon Reach powers unite a great fleet to defeat Urdogen and his fleet of 90 ships. In Eleint of this year, Urdogen and nearly all of the Inner Sea pirates perish. The hopes of unifying all the nations along the Inner Sea soon die as each country falls to petty bickering over the spoils of the pirates' holds, or accuses each other of delays that result in the near-total loss of the Sembian war fleet.1228 - Plague year (year of beckoning death)
King Tharyann sees the last great elven families leave the country, and puts down Arabels first rebellion
1281 , Year of Thunder - Vangerdahast founds the War Wizards to defend Crown and Country
Date unknown - Amble Obarskyr discovers the Crystal Grot, which allows Cormyrs rulers their own source of income. This is immensely important in shaping the nation, because it allows the monarchy to operate without having to grant concessions to nobles or merchant houses in return for financial support. It also is responsible for the relatively low taxes Cormyrian citizens enjoy.
1289 - Rhigaed 2 defeats the border raiders that have long been a constant nuisance and trouble to the land.
1311 Year of the Highmantle - Azoun 4 (Azoun Rhigaerd Palaghard Duar Obarskyr)Accedes, in his time chartering such companies as Knights of Myth Drannor and Golden Griffin Eyes.
His Titles include : Dragonn Prince of Cormyr, Right Royal Duke of Suzail, King Ascendant of the Dragon Throne, Stagmaster of the Realm and Lord Admiral of the Western Fallen Star Waves.
One of many notable occurances of his reign is the Abraxus Affair, an attempt to assassinate him which causes many treacherous nobles to be exiled. Many of these establish themselves as powers in Westgate.1327 CR - 1352DR, Year of the Dragon - Gondegal is king for eight days before Purple dragons and combined neighbor kingdoms scatter his forces and he flees. The Lost King had intended a dominion north to the Desertmouth mountains, southwest to Wyvernwater and Eveningstar, and
east to Tilvers gap. People would say his reach was no longer than his blade, since he could not hold what he gained against the combined might of Cormyr, Sembia, Daggerdale, Tilverton, and several other Dales, all of whom he’d offended in the making of his claim. His reign was
spent fighting defending the lands he’d claimed, and his mercenaries soon deserted him as his store of plundered goods was whittled down. One night, his force was simply gone, and Azoun 4 retook Arabel without a drop of blood spilled. Gondegal fled northeast via Teshwave, but after
that, none can say. There is a belief he keeps court somewhere in the wilds, a caravan raider who ensures none survive to carry word, and a common saying when caravans vanish is that the Lost King is "gilding his throne with their gold". He is a tall gray haired warrior of considerable skill and cunning, and his badge is a gray wolfs head, face on, with red eyes.Significance of Gondegals Reign : The matter forced the Crown
to begin paying more attention to the rest of Corymr, as opposed to Suzail alone.1331 - Cormyr seizes Tilverton from Zhentil Keep forces.
1335 CR - Year of the Turret - The Tuigan Horde is defeated at Phsant by a coaliton of nations including Cormyr. Azoun 4 defeats its leader Yamun Khahan in single combat.
1346 - Tilverton formally absorbed
1346 - Nalavatoryl the Devil Dragon despoils much of Cormyr with a goblin army. Arabel falls, and Suzail broils in a state of near - rebellion as chaos and refugees flood it and merchant interests and nobles leave the country. She falls to Azoun 4, being this warrior - kings final triumph, for she slays him as well. Infant Azoun 5 accedes. Alusair Obarskyr "Steel Regent" guides the country in his stead.
