Research: Alistair's Life work

Within this file will be kept any notes pertaining to my life's work. As you all know, I have agreed to see it to fruition in a last ditch attempt to strike at the Beholder if all else fails.

The crux of my research is that I wish to combine four powerful elemental essences into one potent spell - harmonizing otherwise volatile essences together as one. My entire life I have been told it impossible, but I will not shrink to a mere word.

The Essence of Fire

The High Priestess of Chauntea gave us guidance on where to find such an essence, for freeing her from the grips of a slaadi prison. She told us that "some three years ago, the black tower invoked some sort of spell within a glade in the king's forest. It has been called the Scarred Glade ever since. Fire Elementals rage there committing all kinds of destruction"

In order to harness this essence, we must investigate this Scarred Glade and discover it's secrets and origin.

The Essence of Earth

For this essence, the only advice the High Priestess had was to be... Very deep under the earth. Unfortunately this essence will require far more research to be pursued.

The Essence of Water

This one is perhaps more curious, though Lazarus spoke of a strange seal with an inscription deep within the Wyvernwater. The inscription reads "And here I was splattered with Sin, impaled upon my imperfections. I gazed upon the glorious growth, wreathed in its worthy fins, joyously aglow, garnished in green.. Gemstone gladestone bandaged its scars. Sleep dear giant, the war is no more."

The Essence of Air

We pursued the clue the High Priestess of Chauntea gave us about the Scarred Glade. Accompanied by Al-Rashid, Lazarus, Ikaros, and Mr. Delaque we ventured into the deepest thickets of the King's Forest. Warned off by a Cormyrian mage upon fear of death, we tried to reason with their initial forces but they shot arrows at an unarmed Al-Rashid. We answered in kind and dispatched of an entire camp of loyalists.

At the depths of the glade, elementals of immense power rampaged, Earth & Fire in a state of unnatural imbalance. We cleared the grove and Al-Rashid divined that from examining a runestone that it was feasible we could harness the powerful Fire afflicting this place.

With the aid of Lazarus and Al-Rashid, we utilized a gorgon's scale as a vessel to house the immensely powerful essence of Fire. As we did so, the very affliction of the grove seemed to lessen and fade, with motes of elemental earth roaming seemingly happily, following us.

I surmise the camp of loyalists we dispatched were meant to report, as we were ambushed- However, the earth elements bound together into a large and powerful elemental, aiding in our escape.

We did not remain long enough to determine if the affliction of the flames had completely dissipated from the grove, though it certainly appeared so. In harnessing the Essence we not only took a step towards finishing my spell and having another option to face the Eldritch evil, but may also have helped rejuvenate the grove itself.

Last eve, we searched high and low through the Queen & King's Abyss for a suitable source of the Earth Essence. Much to my chagrin, naught was found but a small army of drow and their loot from a peculiar trove. Our search must continue in other regions if we're to discover this Essence.

I recently made arrangements to acquire a ship from Admiral Chermosk. It involved making a deal with Barris Reddington, a man of service to her- As well as Jenny Whitlock of the Ravens.

In exchange for my aid in escorting a Caravan from Tilverton to Immersea, I've secured the leasing rights to the ship, so that we may sail to the Wyvernwater and search this island with no bottom... I believe it may be the place to harness the Essence of Water.

In return for the ship, I've been given two conditions.

Barris Reddington must captain the crew that will render it seaworthy.
I must bring Admiral Chermosk the head of the Sahuagin Prince plaguing her shores.

This very day, I have harnessed the Essence of Earth within the Earth Drake's Shard.

It was done by a large group that delved into the chasm itself, cleansing the taint upon the lands through a ritual of cleansing and then harnessing the Essence itself, where trees grew vibrant in a place that saw naught a tinge of light.

With this, we're now halfway to the Essences we shall need to stand against the Beholder.

Half of my life's work is effectively complete.
