I recently plonked down for a brand spankn new PC however I'm woefully disappointed in the sound quality from the onboard sound (surprise, surprise, I know) but the slim line form factor of the machine kind of limits my choices to external sound cards so I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

I'd like something with an s/pdif output ideally as I'm hooking this up to a really good 5.1 home theater setup so it can take advantage of the stuff my analog workaround can't.

Money really isn't an issue if the equipment is good I'll pay for quality (like I should have done for my PC, I suppose but that's it's own thing >.> )

I was looking at this system on TD, myself, but I'd love to hear any ideas.

Unfortunately I use this machine at work primarily so headphones really aren't practical. I had a really killer set of Turtle Beach headphones but they're just not suitable for my work environment.

"Slim line" there's the problem. Slimline models are notorious for being shit to upgrade.

If anything you're stuck with proprietary parts.
